Microsoft announced Friday that it has (finally) finalized Office 2010, which also includes 2010 versions of SharePoint, Visio, and Project on top of the Office productivity suite. (Read our First Take of Office 2010 here.) Businesses will be able to start buying up copies of Office in May.

omg, you're right it is  ;D - so I add the quote for what its worth, oops, article was sent out by cnet yesterday

off topic// I still haven't had a close look at Office 2010
- just activated the Office 2003 on this computer last night. Have never liked Office 2007.

Edit - hey Logos, just thought I'd add that I find Office 2003 has good nuff web tools for me and I also have OpenOffice for web such that I have much more Office resources that I could ever have time to use. And at the same time, rather than 2003 I often load a custom of Office 2000 prem which gives me a very snappy Word/Excel/Powerpoint combo that is still supported at MS download center.
And I have a standalone '97 Word that is still supported by MS - good for users who hate to have MS Office on their system.

But at same time I will read the reviews and take interest in MS Office 2010 - but doubt whether I will ever bother to use it.

I am not promoting anything, I am just being open minded
Chris... I think you're doing what you're saying you're not.
This is avast forum. Not the concurrence forum.
Seems that you're interested in posting about Avira, AVG, Norton updates and upgrades.
Seems, in my opinion, this is not the place.
If you're honest, you won't call me closed minded, will you?

Yes, I will because just telling people who use Avast and are hardcore Avast users about the new versions of Avira, Norton or Immunet  gives them the opportunity to compare it with Avast.

And this won't change anybody who really trust Avast to other AVs

All I am doing is for enlightenment and I have posted this Norton update under the Interesting Software and system News

If this is only about Avast then this heading must be changed

I recently wrote something very good about Avast in the Norton Facebook page

Go check it if you want to

perhaps a stint on Office 2010 beta and I am convinced to drop all my existing Office and run solely Office 2010 on the web ;D
I wouldn't totally rule out the possibility :)

I've always believed that MS Office was strictly desktop, with TCP/IP not advise as feasible option
I tried Paint.NET but now back to mspaint.exe
but the beta program does make sense now that you mention it
given a second thoughts, I wouldn't totally rule out the possibility - mmm...*looks and see if there a computer spare*  8)

Immunet works well with avast! 5 so mentioning new updates in the Update Thread makes sense.
The rest of the full fledged AV's have their own forums. Any one interested in exploring them is free to Google and get all the information they might want.
Outside of how to remove Norton, I really don't see any reason for having information about it on the avast! forum.  ;D IMHO

yes I'm giving Office 2010 a run now.
I see that they have done away with extensions docx, pptx, etc...that made Office 2007 such an oddball suite
and likewise backward compatibility is restored as the default action (correct me if I'm wrong)
I've never used Outlook - but because its favored by some of my clients, I thought best familiarize myself with the program
now how and where do I disable SSL/TLS? *oh well,  better go searchfindlearn*  <== okay, I think I've done this now.

The Mail shield should detect the presence of MS Outlook and use the avast plug-in, so you shouldn't have to disable SSL/TLS on your MS Outlook email accounts as with other email clients.

That however, relies on avast being compatible with whatever flavour of MS Outlook being used with Office 2010. I believe Vlk or Igor said they were working on MS Office 2010 compatibility.

- only using ihug.co.nz at the moment
- have deleted the netsol email addresses until the weather clears over thatta way.

Normally you shouldn't have to touch this area unless you are having a problem with sending or receiving email in MS Outlook. That would be getting errors relating to being unable to connect using SSL/TLS, etc.

yes I did begin with the errors David, firstly with encryption. I had go with unencrypted in Outlook, that fine. Then problems with link to internet, kept falling back to LAN connection, until finally went through and all was good. This happen with each email address that was added - they being, one at ihug (my no. 1) and three at network solutions. Then I removed the netsol email addresses one after the other and this is what I was left with for the time being.

I am going to run the procedure again from scratch when I get time.
For the moment, however, the computer is not one that I use often, and I have a pile of other work to get through.
I would appreciate any input and I will open a new topic if that is warranted. And I still having a search round the webforum.
