Well as someone mentioned, essexboy I think, given Microsoft's OS knowledge it should be able to repair system issues, etc.

This had nothing to do with Microsoft. It was Immunet Protect that killed avast! and simply bypassed the self defense shield.

Personally I use Network Traffic Gadget and that's all what I need for watching network activity.
For other network controls we have our own tools. But your suggestion is good too.
