How to Disable “Speed up Browsing by Disabling Add-ons” Popup Notification Message in Internet Explorer?
http://www.askvg.com/how-to-disable-speed-up-browsing-by-disabling-add-ons-popup-notification-message-in-internet-explorer/

Haven't these notifications get in your nerves?

Yes, when I occasionally use IE, they have. Noted for when I use it next, thanks Tech :)

Those notifications do not bother me at all on my XP Pro system but have noticed it usually once or twice per day on my Windows 7 system with IE9 so it does not get on my nerves.

I found that using the Group Policy Editor

to be the easiest method to make the change.

Once you right click on “Speed up Browsing by Disabling Add-ons” simply select edit
and in the screen that pops up,

select Enable then Apply and OK.

Annoyance resolved, :)

Yes, very interesting.  Hopefully they will update their firefox add-on VTZilla to be compatible with FF9 and to use the new.virustotal.com site not the old one. Also the windows desktop submission tool (context/right click menu program), not sure if that is what they are talking about in the public API reference.

I found that using the Group Policy Editor
Note: Group Policy Editor is not available in XP Home.
It's not in Win 7 Home Premium either. I downloaded the installer from within a link and got it working but the entry to disable the notification didn't exist. I wound up editing the registry to get the popup and then set the time interval to the max.

The Group Policy Editor is available in the XP Pro version, so I suspect it will be in the Win7 Pro version not win7 Home versions.

Yes, it is in Pro and Ultimate only. The installer I found makes it come up but---it's the version from XP so it's useless.

All software runs on the OS platform it was designed for. That certainly
isn't anything new. :)

It isn't completely useless but since it uses the .dll from XP, some of the features in Win 7 are not supported such as the one discussed earlier. The option to disable those addon notifications is not present for example. It's not compatible with IE9 it appears. If you go to the Win 7 forums, the guy who made the gpedit installer for Win 7 has removed all links to download it because of problems people had getting it to work right. Why he made it install files from XP Pro and not from Win 7 Pro is anyone's guess.

UPDATE:  I reported the problem on the  tweaks page and got a response that you can download the profile for IE9 from Microsoft. I did that, copied the file into the Inf folder in Windows and then reran the gpedit installer. Now I have the full set of options for IE in GPedit  ;D

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8386

This is all if you don't have Win 7 Pro or Ultimate and want the Group Policy editor.

Microsoft Patch Tuesday geared to band-aiding obsolete Window XP SP3

Quote
Cautious optimism: Details of Microsoft's first Patch Tuesday of 2012

The details of Microsoft's first Patch Tuesday seem scary on the surface, but may actually suggest a more proactive approach going into 2012.
By Colin Neagle on Mon, 01/09/12 - 9:00am.

Microsoft has already stirred the pot in the security community, releasing details on the first Patch Tuesday of 2012 in an advance notification published last week.

Although the document gives off some scary numbers – its seven bulletins ties a previous high for January – a closer look shows that Microsoft may be redirecting its security strategy in light of success in 2011.

Six of the seven bulletins issued target the Windows operating system, Windows XP Service Pack 3 and later, while another addresses an information disclosure issue with Microsoft developer tools software. One bulletin, which will fix a remote code execution issue in Media Player, was rated "critical."

P.S.  There will also be critical Adobe patches released tomorrow.
