Flux
An Amazing program if you use your PC late into the night
<snip>
It basically automatically changes the lighting on the monitor and reduces the brightness and color based on the time of the day.

I gave up on Flux after several months as it does tend to give an orange tinge to the screen and because of that it isn't that clear on reduced brightness.

Have any alternatives?

No, I just try to balance the brightness so it isn't too harsh at night or not bright enough by day.

Give it a try, it might be different to you, but for me the colour just seemed wrong in the evenings.

Win + X (Win 7, and only that because my Fn + F keys to change brightness don't always work...)

Mine stays at minimum pretty much all the time, except when I can't see it because of sunlight ;)

I know it is not an option for all, but works for me...

Yes  :) I do see an orange tinge but it is ok for me. Will check out the manual settings as well.

Slim Drivers

An Alternative to DriverMax

http://www.driverupdate.net
The only thing they do for free is scan your computer.  If you need updates you either pay for the program or,
Use DriverMax to get your updates for free.  :)
Just un-check the AVG Secure Search on the first screen.

Wow I keep mine at the other end of the slider at all times. At least when plugged in. I don't use the Mobility Center. My sound volume also stays all the way up but I control the actual volume I hear with the knob of the external speakers. This laptop is used like a desktop with speakers and my All in One Canon Printer / Scanner (for which I paid all of $29 new at WalMart and works very well) plugged in at all times. The older XP laptop is my mobile machine.

No bob. It does really updates the drivers. It is manual though.

You need to select SlimDrivers not DriverUpdates.

As I mentioned in the security thread, what Microsoft didn't want to say is that it (Microsoft) isn't properly protecting your privacy and
Google has found the weakness and is using it to do what it always does, gather information.....

Microsoft's new Windows 8 logo: This one looks like a window

The software giant continues its march toward releasing its upcoming operating system, debuting a new logo that does away with the flaglike design of Windows past. Microsoft unveiled a new logo for the upcoming Windows 8, featuring a clean one-color design that leans heavily on its new Metro user interface.
