Microsoft's new Windows 8 logo: This one looks like a window
<snip>
The software giant continues its march toward releasing its upcoming operating system, debuting a new logo that does away with the flaglike design of Windows past. Microsoft unveiled a new logo for the upcoming Windows 8, featuring a clean one-color design that leans heavily on its new Metro user interface.

Old news, already posted in somwhere and slated the bland logo not a patch on the old coloured window flag.

Microsoft quietly extends consumer support for Windows 7, Vista

"This month, with almost no fanfare, Microsoft has revised its support policy for consumer versions of Windows. The two most recent releases, Vista and Windows 7, now qualify for a full 10 years of support."

I didn't know that until seeing your post. I was shocked. I love Microsoft more now. My plan is still to get a new laptop as a Christmas present in December 2014, as I got my current laptop as a high school graduation and early birthday present in 2010, and I'm concerned as to how long the LCD screen and hard drive will last past the four year point.

This is great news and only makes sense. Especially for me and the many others who plan on skipping Win 8.

PCWorld has a list of the top ten paid antivirus programs last year. The URL is http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/collection/6706/top_paid_antivirus_for_2011.html.

It's a meaningless list since most of them haven't been reviewed since November of 2010. They have Avast 5 in the list for God's sake.

I noticed that some of the programs were last reviewed in 2010, but the list or something on that page was last updated today. I'm thinking that maybe the programs are accurate on the list but the actual versions aren't.

If you look at the article, you'll notice that the review was rated in 2010 therefore totally outdated.

I think I understand. I think what Dch48 said was that because most of the reviews were done in 2010, the list isn't accurate. I was thinking that the list was accurate because it had been edited this month, and thought that only the versions were off.

Avast Pro Antivirus 5 has a slick interface, but its middling malware detection performance prevents it from achieving a higher score.
Maybe with the new sandboxing features, avast! will score higher when they review v7. ;)

One thing with the new CCleaner. While it does prompt to close your browser if you're using Chrome, it does not do so for IE9. Either there's a bug in CCleaner or we have more evidence of IE9's superiority as it doesn't need to be shut down for the cleaning to proceed.  ;)

Well you can turn that statement on its head, IE9 is so lax on security you can make changes without having to first shut it down.

If you were actually making changes to the program itself, maybe, but all you're doing is deleting temp files, cookies, and history or whatever else you have selected. That's not a security risk.
