Desktop files lost after deleting Avast free.
« on: March 04, 2017, 05:07:45 PM »
Hello,

After deleting a version of Avast i lost my desktop picture plus a lot of maps with personal information.
I hope you can help me getting it back.

I've read the avast clear deleted all my desktop files (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=165839.0)
I've followed the instructions in the logs to assist in cleaning malware (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0)
I've attached the log Malware from Malwarebytes.
I've attached the logs FRST and additions from Farbar Recovery Scan Tool.
I've attached the log aswMBR from aswMBR.

I've found a file MBR.dat on the desktop, but I don't remember where that is for. If necessary I can post it.

I hope you can give me instructions how to get back my documents.

Thanks for the effort.

Kind regards

It is created by one of the tools you have run (aswMBR I think)  and will be gone when tools are removed

How did you delete Avast?  Did you uninstall it or delete it?

Did you know that System Restore is disabled?

If you did not do this intentionally, please check the following:

Go to Start and type System in the search box.
Click on System (under Control Panel or Settings) and then on System Protection.
Click on Configure and then select Turn on system protection.
Click Apply and then OK.

In the System Protection screen, is Protection now On for the drive?

FIRST >>>>

Please go to START (Windows Orb) >> Control Panel >> Uninstall a Program or Programs and Features and remove the following (if listed):

Ace Stream Media 3.0.2

To do so, left clicking on the name once and then click Uninstall/Change at the bar above the list window.

Follow the prompts of the uninstaller BUT please read carefully any questions it asks before answering; some uninstallers will try and deceive you into keeping the software.

SECOND >>>>

Open notepad by pressing the Windows Key + R Key, typing in Notepad in the Run dialog and then pressing Enter.  Please copy the contents of the Code box below.  To do this highlight the contents of the box by clicking [Select] next to Code: , then right click on any of the highlighted text and select copy.  Paste this into the open notepad. Save it to your desktop as fixlist.txt

NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

Run FRST64 by right clicking on the FRST64.exe file, selecting "Run as Administrator..".  The User Account Control may open up; if it does, select Yes to continue to let FRST open and load.

The tool will check for an updated version of itself every time it loads; please allow it to do this and the program will either inform you it is downloading an updated copy (and to wait until it is safe to continue) or show nothing (meaning there is no update found) and you can continue on.  Press the Fix button just once and wait.  The tool will create a restore point, process the script and ask for a restart of your system.

If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.

When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach it to your reply post.  Also, tell me how your system is running now.

Edit: I thought your solution starting with 'First' was your autograph on this site. I will try it later.

You should have created a backup.

If you don't have one you can try http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk to see if/what there is to recover.
If that isn't working for you, you need to hire a recovery company of learn to live with the loss of the data.

Thanks for making the notepadfile!

I have taken the steps described (only not opened FRST64 as administrator).
See attachment for the Fixlog.

The system looks unchanged.
I forgot to mention that before i uninstalled Avast I already had a problem I now remember.
Something that I could not find websites (like Avast) cause of no dsn server available?
I remember cause after the reboot after running FRST64 I could not get to this website.
I rebootet again and now its working again.

I have download testdisk 7.1 but I don't understand how it works.
