Hi,

Avast registered a threat and put a file into the virus chest. The Location was c:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\App.Data. I have not downloaded any new software, so I am not sure what would cause this. Would this be a false positive?

Is anyone able to help me with this as I am not very techie.

Andy

Hi Milos,

How do I upload a file? I have submitted this to this to the Virus lab through the virus chest.

you use the restore file from chest option, and then send it from orginal location using the link Milos posted

if avast dont detect it again it should work

Hi Pondus,

Does that mean the file is safe? I do not want to restore it, if the file is unsafe.

I guess once it is in the Virus chest it is safe and not on the computer?

If its still in the (virus prison) does that mean it will cause issues to my computer?

If you delete it and it turns out to be a false positive, you'll have no way to restore it.
Leave it in a place where it can't do any harm but can be restored if it turns out not to be dangerous.

No / Yes / maybe

if it is a needed file that is falsely detected there may be some issues with  whatever program that need that file, that is why there is a quarantine (chest) then you have the option to fix any wrong doings your antivirus have done > click the link i gave and read

If you have reported it as a false positive using the option in virus chest, you now wait
Tomorrow you right click the file in chest and rescan it, if not detected you may restore it

I would let it stay in chest a couple of week before i delete    ;)

Hi,

Thanks for your help.

The file is Autoupdateclient.exe. I am not sure what that is used for but I will leave the file in the virus chest.
