And from the info I got it seems to be a Microsoft screweup as ESET and Kaspersky are experiencing similar thing despite having everything Microsoft demanded from them.

For me , no issue with copying file and KB4056615 works fine unlike you
Related ?

KB4056615 is another issue and has nothing to do with the problem with Avast version 17.9.3761.0. There are messages from users who have trouble installing KB4056615 (ntfs.sys, ntkrnlmp.exe, ntkrnlpa.exe, ntkrpamp.exe, ntoskrnl.exe) or after installation problems with the NTFS file system (NTFS permissions). I myself had no problem with the installation of KB4056615 in 3 PCs, but where I have uninstalled on the basis of the messages again and wait in the short term whether follow-up updates appear.

 :)
Hello,
however ,issue for copying file on xp is also related to NTFS system files.
People on the French forum say they have no problem copying if they go through a partition FAT32

Cosmics - understood - thanks.

But others here should know that the copying problem started BEFORE KB4056615 - it is a real, separate problem with this version of Avast on XP machines.

The French agree.  We are united!

@chris05

My thought that due to the current situation with Specter and Meltdown, regarding the ntfs.sys driver (infers therefrom that on the emergency patch KB4056615, where not only the kernel is updated, but also ntfs.sys), Avast has also implemented a protection with the current version which unfortunately leads to this problem under Windows XP.

@glnz

There had already opened a topic in the German-speaking part of the forum at the end of December 2017.

My XP System disks are all formatted to NTFS.
Me too (XP NTFS), I have no copying issue , no more KB4056615 issue (installed on my xp) like in my screen upper.
I was just wondering if the problem with the KB could not be due to the problem of copying last month, preventing today the update from settling (to write in the temp) and not the opposite.

Hello

I found the same problem in two laptops running XP SP3 Home without MS patches for Spectre and Meltdown. All problems started right after updating Avast.

Users in the German, Spanish and French forums are all reporting file copying problems under Win XP.

I would recommend Avast to invest more time in testing their software and less in writing marketing announcements (https://blog.avast.com/meltdown-and-spectre-yes-your-device-is-likely-vulnerable). It's not about being firsts: it's about doing it right.

Regards,

Regards,

There has been a fix related to copy issues in XP, read Reply #20, link by Asyn.

No, there was no correction (at this time)
#20 => avast simply said he was able to reproduce the issue,
so far many are still waiting for this fix

But Reply #20 said different (my highlighting):

Plus the post from the link was on 3rd Jan 2018 saying it would be on the next micro update (presumably the 12hr check):
The Avast team were unable to reproduce this issue on Win 7. However, they were able to reproduce it from Win XP.

The fix for Win XP will be out soon with the next micro update
.

So as usual clear as mud.

Sorry guys, that's all I know.
If it doesn't work for you try a clean reinstall or contact Avast.

Well my issue with a data backup batch file on my XP System is working again.  I have no idea if that was down to my reconstruction of it (essentially the same set of commands) or Avast fixing the issue in XP.
