Thunderbird now times out with message 'connection to server pop.googlemail.com was reset'.

Hi,

Try to turn off IPv6 in Thunderbird and see if it helps.

Options/Advanced/General/Config Editor

Enter IPv6 in the search bar.

Toggle the setting to:  TRUE

network.dns.disableIPv6 modified boolean true

I am having the same problem with Windows 10 & 11, Thunderbird 91.10.0, and Avast One Essential (free).
Thunderbird updates with Avast disabled, does not with Avast enabled.  Worked with previous a/v.  Does not update with Thunderbird as an "Allowed App" (only Ransomware Shield is offered to be allowed).

Whilst it isn't advised to post in an old topic two and a half years old, much will have changed, Thunderbird is now on 91.10.0 and avast on 22.5.xxxx.

Did you try the suggestion in Reply #1 by r@vast (Avast Team) about ivp6 settings ?
