A few days ago, my Dell G7 Win 10 laptop received some updates from Microsoft and it became very sluggish immediately after the next bootup. The weird thing is that using Task Manager, the CPU and Memory utilization was low, and it felt that the whole machine was underclocked. After some troubleshooting, what happened is that the BASE FILTERING ENGINE service is stuck in starting state and it caused the whole machine to be very sluggish stuck in an infinite loop retrying to start the BFE. My theory is that the built-in Firewall and Avast caused BFE to not start at all.
But as I cant uninstall Windows Firewall, and I cant stop/start/ disable BFE, I uninstalled Avast using AvastClear, then the problem went away.
After a few days, I re-installed AVAST PREMIUM, but made a custom installation and didn't install AVAST FIREWALL, and I'm using Using Windows DEFENDER FW for now, and also enabled Avast DELAYED START, to only start running when services such as BFE and windows Firewall has started.
Anyone else encountered a similar issue with Avast (Premium) + BFE?
Thank you.
PS: Take note that i've searched the forum for BASE FILTERING ENGINE (BFE) and the latest post was Oct 2018, so I decided to create a new post.
