Ad Blocker is gone
« on: January 20, 2021, 05:59:27 AM »
Hey, so this morning I woke up and my ad blocker was gone from my browser. I tried force updating, uninstalling and reinstalling, uninstalling and deleting my data and reinstalling, and even uninstalling with the removal tool and reinstalling, and it's still gone.

It's on my other pc working fine, I don't know why its not on here.

I am currently running a system restore on the laptop in question, so I will get that once it has finished, or if that (somehow) fixes it I will update this topic

When I launched the browser after system restore, it showed ad block, but on the security and privacy page it was turned off and would not turn on, then once I went to the extension settings, it was on, and using the forced update seemed to remove everything on the page

I have never seen that crypto token extension either what is that? if its a virus, I just ran a full scan with avast antivirus and it didn't catch that?

Edit: Should I try the removal tool and reinstall again or do I need to just fully delete the files for the browser? Also, what files would I need to delete

Edit 2: Is that just an extension in the browser? It shows up on the diagnostics for my other pc, and a search of the forums shows this popping up on a ton (if not all) diagnostic scans. If it is supposed to be there, what is it for?

I have updated, and it's still not there.

Here are the diagnostics after relaunching with the update

Avast secure browser is a free product though, isn't it? Or is there another reason to select paid product?

Correct, but you can get support for it, if you use one of the paid products. ;)

I got it! I believe (I don't know anything about programming but this is my best guess) that when my browser tried to update this morning there was an error and it left some temporary files uninstalled, hence why several plug ins were missing. But since they existed, the reinstalls didn't try to install them again. So, after uninstalling a 5th time and going to make sure all files were deleted, I found the .tmp files that had avast files in them and deleted them too. Now everything's working fine.
