From what I've read, although it makes for a safe system, updates and changes become
very cumbersome.

nice program very simple to use really nothing to configure, like sandboxie except you must reboot with retunil,i like sandboxie better because you dont have to reboot all the time

I'm testing and liking.
Although I intend to use just when trying (testing) software.

it is a good program but the thing i dont like is that you cant turn off protection(updating system & programs)on the fly you must reboot, you can turn on protection at any time.

is anything other than a firewall really needed if this program is set to protect all the time?

Did you test Windows SteadyState? Can it be turned off on-the-fly?

Well... if you're not installing programs, if you have all programs in the same system partition and don't update them, if you don't use any infected document in other partition, well, maybe. For me, more than security, it brings a safe environment to test software (installation).

I just removed it.
To stay safe, you have to lock up the barn and through away the key.
With any other settings, I'm still not any safer than with the current protection.
If I want to live dangerously, I'll just use Sandboxie.   ;D

Interesting (long) discussion at Wilders. Thanks urkingatu2.  :)

I'm not sure that in the virtual partition avast would be able to load at boot time, scan at boot time, load low level drivers. So seems Microsoft tool allows special scripts to update the antivirus and Returnil doesn't (yet).

Hello Everyone,
Thank you for your interest in Returnil and forgive the late reply to your discussion.

Are you able to install Avast on an alternate partition (Data and/or Application partition)? If not, are you able to change the default signature save/load path in Avast?

Yes, this is possible.

This is not allowed.

Congratulations for the Returnil program. I'm using and it does what it is supposed to do.
It's a pity that it does not allow scripts to update programs in the system partition like Microsoft Windows SteadyState. But, on contrary, Returnil works better than MS tool, safer and with more flexibility in my opinion.
