But will there sooner or later be a definitive resolution to this bug also declared by the Avast team?

https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=323692.15

However, it appears that Avast does not interact well with the Microsoft Windows security status icon.
Thank you and good day!

Have you updated to this version  ?
I Have yet to update, but I suspect this 'NEW Fake E-store Protection' may be incorporated in the Web Shield as it is monitoring your on-line connections.

Try checking the Avast Settings > Protection > Core Shields  and also the Web Shield.

I don't think they would be asking if they hadn't updated.

I don't think they would be asking if they hadn't updated.

Well given that this so called New Feature being announced in this Release topic.
Some would ask about this feature and where it can be found even before updating.

Have you updated, have you found where it is, if so let it be known. Or are you just doing your usual thing.

I have at least suggested what would be a logical location for it to be incorporated into an existing component, as i can't see it warranting/being a stand alone function.

My usual thing of providing logical responses that make sense? Yeah, I guess I am.

As for me updating, I haven't updated as I'm not at home in front of my laptop. I was simply suggesting that it would be silly of someone to ask about a new feature in a new version of Avast if they hadn't updated to that version of Avast.

Yes, I have latest version. I think I searched everywhere and didn't find an option so maybe it's built into the Web Shield.

To me that would seem to be the logical location for it.

Though the comment in the Original Avast Post "Check out our new feature that protects you from fake online shops trying to pretend to be legitimate ones."  I don't know how you would go about checking this as is suggested.  Or how you would test it.

There is a paid Avast Product called Real Site, which utilises an encrypted connection and its own DNS server:
Quote from: Extract
Real Site provides an encrypted connection between your web browser and Avast's own DNS server to prevent hijacking. In other words, Real Site ensures that the displayed website is the authentic one.

How they would go about incorporating these checks in say Avast Free, I just don't know.
So it could do with some more detailed information by Avast on this and how users would go about testing/checking this as the original post suggests.

I updated to 23.11. First I did it through the UI Update function like usual, and then again with a clean install. I was curious to see if it would make a difference with the results i'm about to summarize, but it didn't so that was a waste of 20 or so minutes. But it provides peace of mind and settles that curiosity.

The Fake E-store Protection indeed does not appear to be its own standalone feature with its own settings, but there aren't even any settings contained in any of the shields that have to do with the Fake E-store protection. All the settings in the core shields are the same as they previously were. There are also no extensions or add-ons added to Chrome or any other browser (something Avast has done in the past). So this Fake E-store protection is indeed something that isn't visible or interactive.

Now, I can buy that the E-store protection is part of the Web Shield and is simply included and active when that shield is turned on. But where I start to question things is the New Survey not being anywhere on the UI, or at least anywhere I can find. I clicked into all of the tabs and couldn't find it. So either

1. I'm blind.
2. It's hard to find and I have to click into 7 or 8 things to find it
3. It's not an on-demand feature and will pop up periodically to fill out or respond to or
4. It's only available to Premium customers and that part was omitted in the release notes.

Otherwise, nothing bad to report about yet.

EDIT: Also, the version I have is 23.11.6090, which I suspected in the Beta thread though differs from that site with the mirror download. Build 23.11.8635.807.

Hi all, I can confirm that the Fake E-store Protection is part of the "regular" Web Shield protection. There isn't any specific setting associated with this feature. Sorry for the confusion!
