The new version has the same malfunctions that were present in 24.7, namely when any Google sites (Search, Calendar, and especially Gmail) are open in a Firefox browser, after a brief period of minutes the sites will fail to refresh or reload, causing a yellow popup in Gmail to read "Oops, the system encountered an error..." and behaving as if the connection is offline. When this happens, the only way to get Gmail or Search or Calendar to refresh is to close out the browser and relaunch Firefox. Disabling Avast web shields immediately corrects the issue. With webshields enabled, the error keeps happening repeatedly when Gmail is left open in a Firefox tab. The issue does not happen when using a private Firefox browser, which requires the user to sign into accounts every time the browser is launched, which makes it a troublesome workaround.

Users of Avast Free and paid version on Windows 10 or earlier PC computers with Firefox have extensively reported the issue on the thread fo the previous Avast version 24.7... https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=328185.0

Do you still have the problem this morning with your avast free24.8/firefox 129.0.2/w10 configuration?
As far as I'm concerned, this morning (for more than an hour) I didn't encounter the problem (gmail open and google searches), whereas yesterday I did.
However I'm using W7/Avast Premium 24.8/Firefox 115.14.0 esr

Thanks for the new release :)

BTW, I don't have the issue with Firefox and Google recently. Maybe I'm just lucky :-X

When I first got the update to 24.8 it was build 862 and the issue was persistent. Today I see it updated to build 864. I will see today if the issue recurs. Hopefully they fixed it. I will report back...

Just a wild guess, try this settings in about:config:
Code: [Select]
security.tls.enable_0rtt_data = false (default: true)

Just to confirm that I've posted on the other thread about Firefox being broken for Gmail and searches when using Avast. I tried the latest version 24.8.6127 build 24.8.9327.864 yesterday, it upgraded just fine and the issue went away. BUT this morning it's suddenly started happening again, first the old "Ooops" warning in Gmail followed shortly after by being unable to search yet again. Disabling the Webshield returns browsing to normal but it's not a great fix or workaround!

So looking for another AV for the shorterm, was thinking about going to AVG but another member, more knowledgable than me, advises don't bother as AVG uses the same Virus engine etc as does Avast. So what alternative??

The problem persists as before, with latest build 864. "Oops" popup error message in Gmail. Was able to refresh the page easily, but when trying to open Calendar or Search in another tab the tab remains blank. Had to close out the browser and relaunch Firefox because links in email messages won't work otherwise.

Did anyone bother to try this about:config setting in Firefox, posted by NON above?
I must admit mine is set to default = true
and not experiencing that FF v google v avast issue.

I have it set to "true" and I'm experiencing a problem... looking further into this context I see that something similar happened to people a long time ago.

https://support.mozilla.org/ml/questions/1350672

It looks like it may be a problem somewhere in the implementation of the Avast shield, how it intercepts and manipulates traffic. Something is probably implemented incorrectly in the TLS1.3 area, maybe 0rtt data is to blame...

What DNS servers do you use?

What DNS servers do you use?

I followed instructions and got a bunch of numbers https://www.top10vpn.com/tools/what-is-my-dns-server/

Should I post the numbers here? I don't want to compromise my computer by posting something that should be private.

How will this tell me anything?
