Can't restore files from the virus chest

Recently, I tried downloading Audacity, XAMPP, and Filezilla 3 and I saved all three files onto my computer. When I tried opening them, a dialog box would appear, saying "NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction" and tell me that pressing Close would terminate the application while Ignore would ignore the problem. The icons these installation files would be this blue and white box rather than the appropriate icon and a black dialog box would also appear every time I try running them.

I ran Ad-Aware and avast! both of which didn't reveal anything that would help me with this problem.  ???
