There are a number of topics related to this, a forum search, this is just one, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=34213.0.

You could search on the error number C0000005 and get a more specific list of posts and add yours to that.

Similar problem here.  It is registered in Event Viewer each time I boot my pc running XP Sp2:

Internal error has occurred in module aswar scan function failed! function C0000005

Is there a fix available?
Windows XP Sp3 Home desktop, Windows 10 Pro laptop, Avast 17.8.2318 Free , Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free), SpywareBlaster. SuperAntispyware, WOT. Firefox Quantum.

It didn't take them to long in getting a fix for the original error, Internal error has occurred in module aswar scan function failed!, function A000010E. That however only seemed to effected those with FAT32 format.

After that fix some have seen a different error number relating to the same aswar module, so they may well be working on a fix, but taking time so there are no unforeseen consequences to the fix.

It really is nothing to worry about other than the event viewer entry it doesn't effect the other aspects of avast 4.8, you just don't have the anti-rootkit function working.

Hi all,
i am new on the forum.

i have since this night, the same problem as Nourine.

Here is my PC :

INTEL Core 2 extreme QX6850 overclocked @ 3,67GHz.
HDD 2x74GB Western Digital RAID0 10000rpm 16MB cache : NTFS (not FAT32)
2x1GB DDR2 PC6400
ASUS GeForce 8800ULTRA.
AVAST Free 4.8.1169 / VPS 080406-0
Windows XP Pro SP2.

Here is the message I have at each PC reboot in windows event :

"Internal error has occurred in module aswar scan function failed!, function C0000005.
ID event : 90"

I hope this will be solved ! I love so much AVAST ;D and would not like to be obliged to choose another antivirus program.  :-[

Thanks for help.

Hi,

I have started having this problem too lately since updating to 4.8.1169.

Running 3 HDD's all using NTFS partitions.

Any chance of some input from Alwil?

There is nothing to do, the error relates the the anti-rootkit not being able to run, this won't effect any other part of avast and will run as normal. Just monitor the topics and see when a fix is announced.

Alwil have already fixed a similar problem but with a different error number. I don't doubt they will do the same, as I said above this isn't a critical error.

Hi,

A c000005 error in most programs is general due to a memory leak of some sort within the application, so it will be a problem that Alwil will have to fix.

If it were a memory leak then it is something that would effect everyone so we should all in theory have the error and we aren't. Not to mention a memory leak detected at boot would be something I have never seen.

Hi,

Well it might not just be a memory leak, perhaps part of the program trying to write to memory that is protected, or in use by another application, module of Avast or another program all together.

Hello All,
This error started for me yesterday
- fixed after updated to VPS 080406 this morning.

I do wish that Alwil would get this
"error has occurred in module aswar scan function"
fixed once amd for all.

Good luck
Maurice

If it started yesterday the 5th and was fixed on the VPS of the 6th I would say that is exactly what they are trying to do.

let's just wait for the problem to be solved, because me too I love avast and I don't want to use another anti-virus.
by the way, I have xp2 with NTFS (not fat32).
