498 Unable to scan files
« on: January 16, 2009, 08:05:17 PM »
everytime i do a scan with avast i get almost 500 files that it is unable to scan-many say this is a decompression bomb (which i read here is not to be worried about) I'm just worried that some of these files are infected-my computer has recently been opening up like 40 versions of IE everytime i surf the web and its running really slow. The log comes up with many that say "archive is password protected" but i don't remember playing a password on it? Please help me!

Decompression Bomb, a file that is highly compressed, which could be very large when decompressed. This used to be a tactic long ago to swamp the system, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=8943.msg73950#msg73950

See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=35347.msg297170#msg297170 this topic for more information on why files can't be scanned.

If you can give some examples of some of the common entries, the file name, location and reason avast gave for not being able to scan (those not password protected).
