"This site may harm your computer" bug in Google search
« on: January 31, 2009, 03:59:03 PM »
Has anyone noticed that there's a bug in Google search?

I typed in Wikipedia and it's labels it with "This site may harm your computer".

I hope Google fixes it.

Definitely, everything I get back is labeled as malicious by google, even the google site.

Neither do I:

Well I have just done a google search for avast forums and clicked on the one for forum.avast.com and arrived at the index page unmolested by google or stopbadware.org.

Interestingly I can't reach stopbadware.org site I get a "document contains no date" error in firefox, so looks like it is getting some of its own medicine back :P

What does this notification look like (image)  ?

I don't know if I having blocked a number of google stuff in both noscript and adblock plus, perhaps it is blocking the notifications :P

I had this same problem. Check your time/date on the lower right of your screen.

Mine showed a date in June 2009, which then made the security certificates "expired".

Now I'm wondering how the date was changed.

Please post back and let me know if this fixes the problem.

I use Scroogle scraper, I had the same problem, it's fixed now.  I never checked the date & time.

A few hours ago I had the same problem for a safe website. Now the warning message does not appear anymore. Also I never checked the date or something else like that.

GOOGLE GOES MAD: TAGS REST OF INTERNET 'HARMFUL' Headline from Drudge Report

I can relate to this quote from the Telegraph article: "The Google outage frightened me like a schoolgirl, until I remembered an old technology called 'Yahoo'."  Except for the "frightened me like a schoolgirl" part.  My first thought was "Oh, Google's having a problem.  I'll use one of the other kazillion search engines."  It doesn't necessarily have "serious implications for internet commerce".  Google isn't the oldest or only search engine available.

It was strange. If I searched from the toolbar, I got the message. But from the website it worked.
