Please Help! I can't get 4.8 Home working!
« on: May 15, 2009, 12:12:52 AM »
Hey guys,  after I had to re-install it because for some reason a couple days ago after I boot up I get this message - "This application has failed to start because aswAux.dll was not found.  Re-installing the application may fix this problem."  and the heading of the this window that pops up is ashAvast.exe - Unable To Locate Component

Anyway, I still get this same message even after I did a fresh install of it.  ???

Which was your old antivirus? How did you uninstall it?
Is it your computer virus clean?

1. Scan with these on-demand scanners Malwarebytes Free and SuperAntiSpyware.
2. Run a boot time scan of Avast! or if you run in 64 bits system then do a standard scan.
3. Quarantine all threat that look suspicious.
4. For clean your pc you can download CCleaner and Disk Defragmenter.
5. Also if im not wrong you can check with Secunia for any program unprotected or out dated. (if im not wrong)
6. Post a Hijackthis log.

I hope this work and you will find something.

If something is wrong on my post please feel free to correct it.

Thank.

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

If it fails, I suggest an installation from the scratch:

1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
2. Boot.
3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation. If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there.
4. Boot.
5. Install again the latest avast! version.
6. Boot.
7. Check and post the results.
