Virus / Malware problem
« on: September 27, 2009, 11:21:49 AM »
Hello there,
I hope someone could point me in the right direction... but please be patient as I'm not exactly the most tech savy bloke in the world.

3/4 days ago I got the Total Security virus.

It would appear that I've now got rid of this issue using the guidelines posted on other threads - Malware bytes & Spyware doctor.

Unfortunately I am still infected with some nasty which keeps making avast send up multiple "Suspicious Message" pop-ups. Generally these happen in bursts of 20 warnings.

I have run the following but none have seems to get rid of the problem:-

Spyware Doctor - Full scan & Intelli Scan
Malwarebytes - Full Scan
Backlight Rootkit Eliminator

I have run a hijack this logo, results as follows:-

Hi bookertmgs1 and welcome to the forum,

...
I have run a hijack this logo, results as follows:-
...

I'm no expert in HJT logs/malware removal, but I do know that this is not the complete log. You need to post ALL of it, as it is very useful to the people who will try and help you.

You can post in multiple posts or attach it to your next post using the addtional options.

Ok, my bad you were still posting it, sorry :-[

But you still need to include the header of the log into your posts, it looks something like this:
Quote
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 8:58:50 PM, on 1/18/2009
Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)

Hi Scott,

thanks for the help - the forum wouldn't allow me to double post ??

Anyway the header is as follows:-

You have some odd entries. Please send the following files to virustotal and report the results

gudap.exe  from     C:\WINDOWS\system32\gudap.exe

axehofus.dll  from        C:\WINDOWS\axehofus.dll

quouzoosouh.exe  from  C:\WINDOWS\system32\quouzoosouh.exe

These entries appear more than once in the log

That's good now then :)

As I said, I'm no expert, and if I tried to help, you woudl probably end up with a brick of a pc, so I'd wait.
Someone who has some malware removal experience will be along to help you with your issues.
I just helped you get ready for them when they do :)

p.s. The forum has a 20 second double post limit which can be a little annoying, if you run into it...

[edit] and micky77 has arrived ;D

Well i thought more would have reported that malicious. Anyhow try this, go to virustotal, click browse, then where it says file name, copy/paste the locations ( one at a time )Then ' open '. Then ' send file '

 C:\WINDOWS\system32\gudap.exe

C:\WINDOWS\axehofus.dll

These files are hidden, but this may allow uploading. If that fails, then try showing hidden files http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html#winxp

You may have SmitFraud.

* Download SmitFraudFix onto Desktop.
*  Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
* Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
* Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
* You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
* The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
* A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Ok, the way I see it, is, these files are in critical areas, windows and system 32. When googled, nothing shows. To me that is very suspect. I would run HJT this again choose scan only and fix the following.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\gudap.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Uzojajelehe] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\axehofus.dll",Startup

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bygav] C:\WINDOWS\system32\quouzoosouh.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [diwef] C:\WINDOWS\system32\gudap.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [bygav] C:\WINDOWS\system32\quouzoosouh.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [diwef] C:\WINDOWS\system32\gudap.exe

6 entries

These entries can be reversed. After fixing reboot then run HJT again and post a new log. I am up to my eyes at the moment, doing a banner for a school. Will look back later.

Thats not good. One entry has returned, another new entry appeareared. Try HJT once more, this time fix

 O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bygav] C:\WINDOWS\system32\quouzoosouh.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [bygav] C:\WINDOWS\system32\quouzoosouh.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sounnogym.exe

Then reboot
Also run rootrepeal, open the program, choose report > scan > tick all boxes > choose C drive, and post  both logs
 http://rootrepeal.googlepages.com/
