I agree with Raman. You need to define what you want to have as "internet security".
Firstly, I would recommend that you visit
www.wilders.org to see what they have to offer in the way of recommended programs. In addition, they have many suitable FREE apps that you can try. They provide good background info on what "internet security" really means.
Personally, here is what I have as a security lineup :
Rule base Firewall (Application base is fine for novices)
Anti-virus with resident guards (AVAST..what else!!)
Anti-spyware
Script Blocker (Avast Pro has one included. Avast Home does not)
Cookie Filter (to catch any that might get through)
Pop-up killer (for laughs)
*You can also use a web filter which can really block a lot of junk from happening. Webwasher and Proxomitron (my favorite) work well.
