Nope, the only way I can get it work through without SSL is to leave the ports at default. Avast has identifed ports 995 & 465 as ntl.com SMTP SSL & POP SSL.
Here are the settings that Virgin require, when I put all the settings in the mail works but avast complains, removing SSL stops mail working. Setting ports back to default works again but I am not sure if it is just falling but to the old non-SSL connection.
