AV-Fox virus
« on: August 02, 2010, 08:47:15 PM »
We have a computer with AV-Fox virus.  IE windows keep popping up all over the place.  It wants you to click on "virus removal tools" that I think would be giving permission to download more bad stuff.

An Avast scan did not find the virus.  What is a good tool to remove this?  We afraid to trust just anything.

Windows 7, fairly new PC.

thanks

Hi Waynefmckinstry,

The bogus alert produced by the rogue anti-spyware program Spyware Protect 2009 which notifies users of Banker.Fox.A is misleading and should not be trusted. There is no such threat as Banker.Fox.A and the alert is shown to scare you to buy Spyware Protect 2009. To get rid of the Banker.Fox.A alert you should terminate Spyware Protect 2009, because Spyware Protect 2009 has many more scamming alerts to show. Use a proven malware remover to terminate Spyware Protect 2009.

For removal instructions see this thread: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=62440.0

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!
