Startpage-006 source
« on: August 16, 2004, 11:28:48 PM »
This is the source of the startpage virus:

Original file name - cCiQYgVXbruf62D8jhVH_GU8AtX
Original folder - C:\WINDOWS\system32
Size of file - 30720
Virus description - W32:Startpage-006 [trj]
File ID - 6

I shredded a .dll file and this file spawned as soon as i hit shred.  Virus was still on my comp so i sent it to the chest and have not had any problems since then.

If any of you devs are reading this i hope you can find a cure for it =)

I tried to send it but my email is not working.  I think i may have ended the application process while attempting to rid my comp of the virus and i dont know how to fix it.  =/

I think you may have to run System File Checker to do a repair of your system. Here are the instructions. (Before you do this, I want you to wait and get a second opinion.)

SFC /SCANNOW
Goto START and then select RUN and then paste the above command on the run line and hit enter. Make sure the WinXP disk is in the
CD Rom Drive. This will check the system files against the original install and make sure none are missing.
You will need to run Windows Update after this is completed.
