new update to 6.0 problem
«

i did the update to avast 6.0 and i can not get it to work correctly. I have windows xp service pack 3.after the new install the icon down in the bottom right of the screen has white cracks thru it, like it is corrupt. I deleted the whole program and re downloaded it again. It did not change.
With the program in the state that it is it will not let IE8 connect to any web sites. If i go into avast, and shut down the web shield it will work just fine. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Welcome to the forum valvemaker,
Which firewall and/or other security software are you running
Have you allowed avast! access through your firewall

I am running zone alarm firewall, spybot anti-spyware,superantispyware, malwarebytes anti malware, paretologic pc health, windows defender, and of course avast 6.0
Avast has permission to go through the firewall. All programs are free except pc health.

Please do not make duplicate posts. You have posted in this thread

and received a reply there. Making duplicate posts only confuses people trying to help you as well as others. Thank you.

i run xp3 and have zonealarm as my firewall, also windows spyware terminator but the update to avast 6 just slowed my netbook till it froze and no internet connection. Only way I have recovered my system is a system restore back to 3rd week in february and am leaving the computer in hibernation mode, not letting it shutdown because I know avast will update and lock my computer. Help because avast has been best antivirus software I've used and would like to continue using it.

Did you again allow avast! access through the firewall
I know each time there is a program update, ZA again asks for permission for that program.

Go into ZA, and remove all the allowed avast! files.
Reboot
and again allow ZA to discover them and allow the files related to avast!
