Application error at windows startup
« on: March 01, 2011, 03:51:03 PM »
Every time I start windows and avast runs it's update I get a message like : application error at 0xe06d7363 ... to 0x7c812aeb. Sorry, I didn't write down all the message. I use windows XP sp3 and avast 5.
Is this a virus, or is something wrong with my computer?

Yes, I updated to avast 6 the day before yesterday, sorry I completely forgot, and today I got the same message as before.

Ok, try a clean install.
1. Follow instructions here: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
2. Reinstall avast.
Problem solved..?

The message is :
AvastSvc.exe - Application Error
The exception unknown software exception (0xe06d7363) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812aeb

Obvious the clean install didn't work.

1. Start Windows in the Safe Mode with Networking
2. Run Malwarebytes in Safe Mode.  Do a complete scan and see if it finds anything. If it does clean up the junk.
3. Run Wise Disk Cleaner in Safe Mode and let it clean the "Green items" which is the default
4. Run Wise Registry Cleaner in Safe Mode and let it clean the "Green items" which is the default
5. Run Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and look for other anti-virus programs and anything else that looks suspicious.  If it finds some of either then uninstall them.

Reboot into Normal mode and see if the problem is solved.  If not then check

6. What executables are running at startup.
7. What Processes are loading at startup.
8. What firewall you are using.

1. Start Windows in the Safe Mode with Networking and see if Avast starts up without an error message.

Avast does not run in safe mode.

Thanks for the correction. :)  I made the change in the above post.

Avast does not run in safe mode.
Well... the protection is not on.
But you can run scannings from there.

I'm having the same issues as stated above and get the error "The package is broken" when I attempt to update my defs or program.  This only started happening after installing Avast6.  I also cannot open the real time shields tab on the main window so it seems like version 6 is broken for a lot of people.

Are you using the free or the paid version?

Free version.  No issues until v.6.  I know the computer is clean, and don't have any other security running.  Was fine when I turned the comp off last night at around 10pm, turned it on 5pm today and the issues started.

laxnkio, please, upload (attach) the avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\setup.log
(or the shorter C:\Users\All Users\Alwil Software\Avast5\log\Setup.log).

If the file is too big for the forum, post the last 400-500 lines of it.
