Windows 7 problem
« on: June 27, 2011, 01:33:49 PM »
Is anyone else on this board experiencing a problem with Windows 7 freezing after recovering from sleep mode? I have researched this and it seems to be a very common problem amongst Windows 7 users, which Microsoft are aware of but seem to be doing very little to solve it.

It does not seem to happen when i put my laptop to sleep only when i leave it and it goes into sleep mode on it's own after 30mins. The obvious answer is to turn off the power setting so Windows will not go into sleep mode at all unless i tell it to.

You can read more about this problem here...

P.s. I don't know how many people use Microsoft Answers but i find their 'support engineers' pretty useless!

Maybe you need to manually dump the computer at the freeze time and send the dumps for pk to analyze them.

I have now gone into power settings and set it so it never goes into sleep mode, also gone into advanced power settings and set the hard drive to not turn off after a period of time. This has worked for some people so i will see how it goes for me.

If that doesn't work then i will do as you suggested.

It seems to me that the most reliable operating systems Microsoft have ever released were XP & NT.

I tried the above yet still have the problem. I have a suspicion that it is something to do woth the NVIDIA driver. I have gone on the NVIDIA website to try and download the lastest driver but they state that the manufactuere of my particluar NVIDIA driver i.e. Sony recommend i download it the one from their website. Trouble is when you go on Sony website there no no NVIDIA drivers to be found.

I can download it straight from NVIDIA themselves but it says they cannot guarnatee the system will work as it should after.

This is getting ridiculous and Sony supprt is terrible!

I would make an image of your system first then go to nvidia and download the latest drivers, if it doesn't work you can always restore the image.
I haven't been able to get driver updates for my laptop from acer for over a year/ two years for some of them but never had any problems with updating from the manufacturer.

Sorry i should have also mmentioned that i have deduced that this has nothing to do with sleep mode. This actually happens when i leave my laptop inactive for 10-15mins regarrdless of whether programs are open or not and whether my laptop goes into sleep mode or not.

I can manually put it to sleep, wake it up and everything is fine. Again, this only happens when left inactive/idle for a period of 10-15mins. What could be running/connecting in that time to cause this. Kind of a very open question i know but i am baffled. i have done full system scans with AIS & MBAM but nothing so i know it is not virus/malware/spyware.

Wonder if this could be a heat related problem ???
When was the last time you cleaned out all the dust bunnies ???
Are you using a cooling fan or, at least have the back part of
the laptop slightly elevated to increase air flow ???
