you dont need SpyBot and Ad-Aware if you have Malwarebytes. SpyBot is no good with todays Malware and Ad-Aware have an integrated Ikarus AV engine that may conflict
and i think Comodo also have a integrated AV....that you dont have to install ?.....

Did you try a repair of Avast ? As the MBR looks clean, both before and after

when i boot the pc avast wont turn on its icon is in the tray with a red x

I apologize if I am mistaken here, but something doesn't sound "OK".

Are you sure Avast's tray icon is the one with a RED "X". Or is it the Windows Security Center (or "Action Center")?

Or maybe you "think" Avast is still installed? We are seeing some reports of several AV tools being replaced by some "enhanced security mode" issue, which is not a real AV, it is shown in RED with an "X" over the tray area, and the previous AV was uninstalled by this (without the user approval, of course). I don't really think this is your case, but you should confirm this.

I'm not trying to confuse anyone, but the description was not clearly pointing to Avast; at least I am not so sure.

According to your next answer (Windows Security Center or something else), we may help you better.

I would get rid of Spybot & ad-aware then do a search for any left over crap, if you know how to check the regestry look in there for any spybot or ad-awere, or you could use Eusing a good free reg cleaner.

I would uninstall Avast & reinstall. What are you using in Comodo just the firewall?
Keep Malwarebytes for scanning. I use windows defender as a realtime protection but that's me.
I do have Malewarebytes to scan.

how do i try to repair avast
Using Windows Control Panel, "Add/Remove Programs", select Avast -> change -> look for "repair". Please REBOOT after all the steps are completed.

If that type of repair doesn't solve the problem, then please report back here so to give you "more drastic" exact steps to complete a full "clean" reinstallation of Avast using the appropriate utility.

Have you been (re)booting during this couple of days? Or you were leaving the system all the time on?

Are you saying that after "some" (re)boots, Avast indeed works correctly, and then it stops? Do you remember doing something specific just before it stopped working correctly (like updating other program or applying some Windows updates)?

In addition, try uninstalling Adaware, at least to find out if you have some incompatibility (I personally would not only uninstall Adaware, but it would not come back either, but that's me). If after uninstalling adaware, Avast still doesn't work, please report back (instead of just reinstalling adaware) so to keep troubleshooting.

About Comodo, are you only using its firewall only, or other additional functions too?

whats the best way to uninstall and reinstall avast
If this is not a permanent state, then "something" is giving you problems.

The "best way to uninstall Avast if normal things are failing" is to use the Clean Uninstall Utility.

Download first the latest stable version of Avast from the official site.

Then download the Clean Uninstall Utility located at http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility.

Reboot into Windows Safe Mode and run the Clean Uninstall Utility under Windows Safe Mode.

Reboot into Normal mode and use the latest stable version you just downloaded to install Avast. Please REBOOT after that.

I still think that you should double check other security tools too (and first). As I said, "something" is interfering, after some update or alike, that causes this problem to "come and go".
