Avast pro 6.0.1279: Having problem browsing........
« on: September 03, 2011, 04:52:12 PM »
Hi friends i am using avast pro beta at the moment. After installing the beta i am having a minor problem browsing. Actually the browser doesn't open a single page unless avast update itself. Once i got the pop up saying avast virus defination updated, then after few second pages starts to load and i can brows normally. Its irritating to just wait till avast updated itself so that i can start browsing. Anyone else having this kind of problem? any suggestion?

Thanks for your suggestion

With regards
Gautam

Have you rebooted after installing the beta version ?

If so, your firewall may be blocking the changed modules of avast.

Does your firewall allow avastSvc.exe internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.

I have installed avast yesterday and indeed rebooted. I have also excluded avast in online armor and vice versa. I am on a slow connection of 2Mbps, so its takes 1 or 2 minute time to update avast. I think People with fast internet won't observe it.

In your case the avastSvc.exe entry isn't even present (unless that is to show you deleted it), so would be blocked. Ensure that your firewall doesn't just automatically block, but ask permission, so that it can be granted. Sorry I don't use OA, so I'm not familiar with its settings.

You could also delete all of the avast entries as I don't know why you have three entries for avast.setup as essentially there should only be one. Once you have done that put OA in learning mode or whatever it is called now and reconnect to the internet to create the entry for avastSvc.exe, also do a manual update as that should also get the entry for avast.setup.

Did everything as you suggested but still online armor not asking for AvastSvc.exe, its only notifying me about avast.setup wants to connect to internet i allowed it and now there is only one entry of avast.setup in the firewall. Shall i remove the exclution of avast and then try again to do a manual update of avast?

Removing the exclution did the trick. Now it warns about the AvastSvc.exe which i allowed this time but still no entry in firewall rule.

I don't know why it wouldn't place the rule in, unless you also recreated the exclusion. Personally I'm not a fan of setting any pro-active exclusion unless I actually experience a problem that warrants it.

Main thing is that it is now working.

Did you try putting OA into learning/teaching mode ?
What errors are you getting ?

What happens when you try a manual update from the avastUI ?

I did put OA in learning mode also tried a repair of avast. Now both avastsvc.exe and avast.setup are allowed through OA. There are no error massege. My problem is when i first connect my laptop to internet and start my browser firefox, it open my homepage without problem but then when i try to go another website it just sits there rotating its green ball saying website found but doesnot load the page. Then sometime latter i get a pop up from avast saying its updated itself. Only after that pages started to load and i can browse normally. I am on a slow 2 Mbps connection so it takes avast quite some time to update itself. So its slightly annoying. I did not had this problem previously.

Unfortunately this will need someone using OA to take a look at this and see they can work out why this is, as I have ZERO practical experience of OA.
