@yhe1
Please uninstall your avast (.1367) and reinstall it from a scratch (= clean install).
Then (and in the future), please report your observations about this issue here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=88735.0.

Everytime I want to manually perform an "program update" (I select this option always to update my definitions), my gadgets disappear from desktop and I have to reenable them. This does not happen when I try to to perform an 'Engine and virus definitons update'

I'm runing Avast! Free 6.0.1367 (latest version) on Windows 7 Professional SP1 x86
Also, I mention that I don't have the Avast! gadget installed.

Thats been a known problem for many months i believe, not a big issue though as you dont have to run a program update very often, only when there is a new release which you can discover here on the forums or you would also be notified by a ( blue ) avast popup or by opening the UI once in a while to check.
When there actually is a program update the system will reboot after updating and the sidebar will return on it's own.

You may be right, but the majority of users prefer to do the all in one update just to make sure that everything is up to date every time they check, without enetering the forums to see if there's something new.

Anyway, let's face it that it is a bug, and it would be nice if it would be corrected when a new  version is ready. Maybe the programmers forgot about this. I can't understand how this can happen... if Avast check's it's own files, why does it conflict with Windows Gadgets?

@Vlk,

I don't know if Avast Software cares or not, but I have seen "Avast Free 6.0.1367" announced as BETA instead of stable. Example: MajorGeeks.
