Can not Update to 6.0.1367
« on: November 30, 2011, 06:45:28 PM »
I recently switched over to Avast Internet Security. I see from the avast user interface that I need to update to 6.0.1367. I have tried multiple times with no success. When it finishes after I click the "update" button is that it says I have 1367; however, my interface says I'm still at 1289 and I need to update.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro SP1 and it is up to date. I'm running no other firewall other than avast. I'm also running Malwarebytes pro and even turned that off, tried to update yet again, rebooted and still showing version 1289.

Can another help?

Try a repair of avast: - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

You may need to reboot after the repair. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.

What did you switch over from ?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

The "Repair" gave me an error but I noticed the "Upgrade" selection. That worked fine. So thank you for your help.

I upgrade from Kaspersky IS. I been with them for several years and it worked fine. However, the price for renewal keep increasing to a point I decided to look elsewhere.

You're welcome.

I don't know how you removed KIS but there are removal tools that can be used over and above an uninstall to ensure you have no remnants that may conflict.

Download and Run this utility to remove all traces of Kaspersky from the registry:
http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208279463. You might want to print the instructions on the page for use off-line.

Or see http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/, this has a collection of manufactures removal tools, so that should remove any remnants, registry, etc.

Thanks again but I'm use to the Kaspersky removal tools. Every time you did a major upgrade (e.g. KIS 2010 to KIS 2011 etc) requires a complete uninstall. I did a complete uninstall. Avast has been working great. The definitions have been updating daily. The version update failure was my fist (and hopefully) last issue.

No problem, wise advice to have a thorough clean out before switching.

Thankfully problems (for me) with avast in over seven and a half years have been few and far between. As you found they are generally very easy to fix.
