Avast 4.5 pro resident scanner not working

I have just purchased the 4.5 pro version and I cannot get the resident scanner to work.   I have tried using the simple interface and moving the slide bar and also switching to the enhanced interfaace as well and it still does not work.  Can anyone help?

What tells you it isn't working?
What OS?
What other security software do you have on the system (or had)?
Any error in Avast's log file (if so what exact error)?

Its a windows XP pro and once I double click on the avast icon on the toolbar it prompts  "The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error."

I recently had the trail version of avast and previously had norton but I checked and norton had already been fully uninstalled.

Just checked the error log file and found a list but can't make heads or tails of it.  Here's the list

This is really odd as with the trail edition I have not had any problem like this.

Did you use the util to remove Norton? If not do so. Norton will leave things behind if you just use the add/remove in control panel.

Make sure you have SP2rtm and not SP2rc.
start > run winver, will tell you.

Do a repair of Avast.
start > control panel > add/remove > Avast > change/repair.

Does this solves it?

I removed *%@#! Norton with the tool from symantec and now Avast is working like a charm.

didn't repair Avast yet, but i haven't gotten any errors recently

No problem. If it is working, no need for the repair. But keep it in mind, just in case.....
