Changing the SBC Server
« on: March 28, 2012, 04:50:18 PM »
We have a customer that is migrating his net from Microsoft SBS 2003 to Microsoft Server 2008.

The current SBC is running in the old 2003.
We have installed a new SBC in the new 2008 server.

To migrate avast! clients, is enough to change the paramenter avastcfg://avast5/Common/MirrorURL in the old server to point to the new server?

Hi, If the old server has the same name and same IP is not needed I think:

1. Let's say i have one SBC running well on the network with 100+ client, then suddenly the computer where SBC installed need to be replaced.
So, i use another computer and install new SBC (the ip address is the same with old SBC).
Can the client's BPP communicate with the new SBC automatically ? or i have to re-deploy the new BPP to the client ?
the client tries to connect to "SBC server" defined by FQDN. You can check it Setting > Troubleshooting on the client. Therefore if the "new" SBC server will be using the same FQDN then it should work - it means the clients will try to connect to the same "FQDN" still.

Thanks, but our issue is different.

Two servers with different names and different IP addresses.

Are you going to decommission the old server? If yes, just change the A record for this machine in your DNS server.

Im curious, would the clients update to the address of the new SBC once they connect the first time?
