@CraigB

It is not possible anymore to disable Active Monitoring in CCleaner ,
even if you uncheck it in Advanced options.
I removed CCleaner from Windows startup, killed CCleaner process in Task Manager, but
after Windows restart Active Monitoring is back with icon in system tray.
So, for now I'll use 5.44 version, but I'll check Privacy Eraser.
BTW, I didn't have problem with advertising since I blocked all .exe files from installation folder with Windows Firewall.

I stopped updating CCleaner at 5.42.6499 after hearing about impending changes in later program versions.  I have never allowed CCleaner to start on boot, I simply couldn't see the point of this for what is essentially an on-demand program.  I only run it once a week, just before doing my weekly drive image backup.

@ CraigB
I'm somewhat surprised that Privacy Eraser could be called "an excellent replacement" for ccleaner, given the name Privacy, when ccleaner wasn't directly a privacy tool.

Yes I've been following the thread at Wilders, people are leaving/removing CCleaner in droves.

It's just a name, technically CCleaner is about privacy if you're running the gutman35 deletion mode for permanent secure erasing though advertising and data collection has killed off all respect to the word "privacy" in CCleaner :) in normal mode it's the same as Privacy Eraser free version and is virtually identical in functionality...there's a portable edition available from the main downloads page http://www.cybertronsoft.com/download/privacy-eraser-portable.zip  8)

Thanks for that Craig.

I certainly like the idea of the portable version, I have downloaded and will give it a trial.

Just tried the portable version and got a bit of a shock to find it wanted to run on startup (Win Patrol alert). Checked the config.xml and found that it defaults to start on boot.  Very weird for a portable app, I set the .

However, I ran load on windows startup to false, saved the .xml file, but that didn't make any difference.  I did find an option in the Settings > General, Load at Windows Startup, having save the options, starting it again and it wasn't trying to set to load on boot.

Hopefully this will help if anyone else want to try.use the portable version.

Most of which has already been discussed on the previous page ;) there is always CCleaner portable but how long that lasts as a viable option who knows :-\ my suggestion would be to migrate to Privacy Eraser which is very good and actively maintained, tested HDCleaner and Wise Cleaner both of which are buggy ::)

Frankly I am getting very irritated with this kind of "Hidden" agenda/change when users have explicitly complained in the past.
Uninstalled immediately >:(
