guess they still haven't reduced the service running in the background yet to a smaller usage-won't use again till then

Since I've got the free version and don't use any of its resident functions, I set the service to manual and (try to) kill it with Process Explorer after doing a scan or update.

But it's unique, it's gotta be the first one I've run into yet that has to be killed two or three times before it gives up restarting.

But why post it at all, it isn't on-demand and can't be used as a back-up scanner to avast even if its detections were up to scratch.

Why post any information on resident scanners that can't be used alongside avast, this is the official avast support forum and it is their buck that pays for the forum so I don't believe they will appreciate you advertising another competitor resident AV, no matter if you slip in the "Just posting this..use the best-Avast!" comment.

What purpose does the post serve, sorry but this effective advertising of competitive product on a forum paid for by Alwil really gets up my nose as you might well have guessed and it isn't the first time I have said it.
