The fact that the only difference between RC2 and RC3 is one less bug, and that on the browser's edition for Mac OS X, indicates that Firefox 3.0 is indeed close to the finish line. And the week passed from RC2 to RC3 signals the fact that Mozilla could be able to meet its initial goal of a mid-June launch even with RC3.

Odd thing with Softpedia article is that the writer linked "RC3" download for Win/Linux versions although he knows both Windows and Linux versions are identical with RC2. 

Although even the official Firefox sites have "RC3 for Win/Linux," you don't need to download it if you already have RC2 since they are identical.

Well Don't  not all Avast members use the above sites. Most of the updates posted here are for highly rated and used programs. What harm does it do?

I was simply thinking either or both of them is/are probably your source(s), which seems to be right to some extent judging from your reaction.    Of course, I have nothing against any posts here.

No harm meant or implied. There are many other sources for Software Updates-BetaNews, Softpedia, FileHippo,NoNags etc, heck you can even use "Updating Software" to keep you software up-to-date

I see.  I tried some of the sites you listed here in the past but I ended up with CoU and MajorGeeks for efficiency.  Especially CoU is recommendable since it is focused on security software.  This is just my two cent, though.

  As I have already written, if you are not using Mac version, there is no update but only the change of the names, i.e. RC2 to RC3.  Likewise, probably, the current versions will be released as official version.
