when real time protection is enabled, rarely it cause windows to freeze, for example during auto-update or when it scan a large file before open, anyway rarely.
Will run the real time along side avast and winpatrol plus and give it a test drive to see if the above happens or not
Thanks for the quick response Omid :)

Question and didn't want to start a new thread on this ;)
When updating my SAS free edition this morning i was offered the professional version with real-time protection and etc. for $9.95 US
usually $29.95
I ordered it and have it now instead of Windows Defender
Was it worth the small price and will it work along side Avast! with no headaches :)
Does it monitor modifications to the HOSTS file in real-time like Windows Defender does?

The offer is $9.95 and $9.95 for a LIFETIME SUBSCRIPTION so I think I'll pass as it never finds anything on my system after its scan.

YoKenny, I appreciate your experience on windows HOSTS file, so I want to ask you a few questions.
I'm using HostsMan and used the MVPS and Ads list to update and add urls and also SpyBot hosts immunization, is it good enough?
you said windows defender detect hosts change, so why it does not do it on my windows vista and with joining advanced membership? how I should set it do report hosts change?
WinPatrol PLUS can detect hosts change and report it to me, is it good enough?

I'll change Spybot immunization to SpywareBlaster one only.

Windows Defender shows an alert.
WinPatrol monitors hosts changes, but if you use HostsMan, hosts will be updated and WinPatrol will warn that someone change it, without recognizing the legit update. So, I won't rely on WinPatrol to monitor hosts.

@Tech: Thanks :)  just about SpyBot S&D, I only use Hosts feature and not IE and FF, for IE and FF I use SpywareBlaster.

I gave up on Spybot Hosts feature also... I think HostsMan and its sources do the job and update automatically.

there are only about 800 (a bit more) sites between HostsMan MVPS and spybot in common.... I think it's better we stop talking about it in this topic and move it to it's own topic to don't move update Thread to another way

I don't use Spybot S&D any more as it has not kept up with the times and its Immunize really slows down IE8 plus its HOSTS file is not as good as hpHosts and MVPS HOSTS files as it contains many entries that are not needed as the sites are dead.

Do you have all of the entries selected?
I'm on my XP Pro system right now and I'll check when I fire up the Vista system.

I find WinPatrol detects HOSTS file changes too slow for me so I disable its check.
