This update may not be required for those with 1.6 Update 15:

Bug Fixes

This feature release does not contain any new fixes for security vulnerabilities to its previous release, Java SE 6 Update 15. Users who have Java SE 6 Update 15 have the latest security fixes and do not need to upgrade to this release to be current on security fixes.

Hi DavidR
That is why i also posted a link to the release notes. People can check it for themselves. I have installed it personally as i believe you should update to the latest version if it is applicable with your operating system.
Of course it is up to each individual, to make up there own mind .

I went to java.com and clicked "Do I have Java?".  That loaded a page that says:
You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6 Update 15).

It looks like Update 16 isn't recommended for my platform.  I'm glad I didn't bother installing it.
Windows XP SP3

I'm afraid I don't understand the purpose of your reply, Pete. Did I offend you in some way? Did you think I was complaining about your release announcement?  I wasn't.  I'm grateful you post them.  I was merely adding that java.com confirms what you and David seemed to have gleaned from the release notes, i.e. that Java Version 6 Update 16 is not a recommended update for Windows XP.  There doesn't appear to be anything gained by installing it on this platform, so would be a waste of time for many of us, especially for those of us that don't have high speed broadband.  I'm glad your installation is working for you.

Hi opiwan,

Welcome to the forum. It's good that you ask but you have to start a new thread for such questions. This thread deals with updates.
