Chrome crashed on my first attempt to check a site there

I though Chrome was protected against crashing by sandboxing the individual tabs ?

I couldn't try it out again as it is currently under heavy load and for some reason the URL Scanning function doesn't appear on the Home page now. So perhaps they have temporarily withdrawn it.
