Think I will stick with the best as I have for a long time.....Avast! of course......
Hi Damian,Bob,Kissman and Everyone else....been busy of late :)

Just one more very good reason not to use adaware. When it was just an anti-spyware, I wouldn't have given it hard disk space, now they want to add an AV to the potential conflict mix, a total no, no.

Maybe I'm just getting too old to see straight, but where on (or linked from) that betanews page does it show what changes are in this update?

Secunia might be a little behind the curve of a recently released update.

It is listed here and isn't beta http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp, see image. It is just the fact that Tech gave a link to where it was notified in the betanews forum.

Thanks for the links, Logos ... that first one is where I go for any announced updates.  After reading the second one, it sounds like the average home RTE user probably doesn't really need U21 if they already have/had U20.

you're welcome. Yes it always takes a while before a new Java version becomes the official version displayed on the main page of their site. They still offer U20 there and the desktop updater says the install is up to date. I've seen that before. But I still prefer to update as soon as a new version is there, patching security flaws essentially. Java is a known vector of online threats, so I would still advise you to update ;)

Java 6U20 doesn't have any unpatched vulnerabilities.  6U21 doesn't patch any security vulnerabilities.  It provides additional functionality instead.  PSI only reports security updates, so it won't report that there's an update needed for 6U20, even if java.com recommends it.

From http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/6u21.html:
Quote
Users who have Java SE 6 Update 20 have the latest security fixes and do not need to upgrade to this release to be current on security fixes.

You don't need to update Java for security reasons.  Reading the release notes, I see no need to update, especially since the Java update page says I'm using the recommended version, 6U20.

Security Exception Upon Drag-and-Drop
Drag-and-drop would, under certain circumstances, result in a null value being passed instead of the expected data.

Java SE 6u21 provides a fix that lets drag-and-drop operations succeed for signed applications or applications with the accessClipboard permission granted.

Edit: Sorry if the above seems redundant.  I interpreted Logos's post as suggesting that Java SE 6u21 is more secure than 6u20.  Upon a careful reading of what Logos posted, I realize that it merely says I should update to Java SE 6u21 if I need to let "drag-and-drop operations succeed for signed applications or applications with the accessClipboard permission granted."
