The problem with Add/Remove is that it seems to recognize / find only a previous version of Avast that I installed, not v 7 which is the current one.  If I don't use Revo (which in its first phase apparently also uses the proprietary uninstall routine) then I will rely on "your" Avast uninstaller to remove the former, which of course it may well be perfectly capable of doing without Revo's assistance!

That is where the avast uninstall utility as it has removal routines for all versions, not just the currently installed version and why the instruction it to run it for each version previously installed from safe mode.

Have you tried to completely un-schedule the scan? Personally I never schedule any scan. I do a full scan once a week and a couple of
quick scans between each full scan.  :)

When I used avast! 6.x I ran a number of scheduled scans.   With avast! 7 on W8-CP the only scheduled scan I am running is a a once a week "Boot" scan as part of my weekend computer maintenance routine. :)

64 K question:  If you now schedule a (full) scan and then un-schedule it, does it continue "on schedule"??

I haven't found that to be the case, by unchecking the schedule this scan, that is it no scan.

I have done what you experts have recommended and completed a full delete and clean reinstall of the latest version.  Next Wednesday will reveal if that has banished the scheduled ghost.  In the interim the system is asking me to re-register - but doesn't allow me to do so.  When I click on "Continue" nothing happens.  I have tried more than once. The display confirms that I am (now) not registered. I have not had this problem on previous occasions so am stumped for an explanation / solution. I hope someone can suggest something. Tks.

There appears to be some problems with the registration server.

Try using the off-line registration method, you will be sent an email with the registration key, use that.
-  Web site (Off-line) Registration rather than using UI Registration see support.avast knowledgebase article 612 Off-line registration.
