HIPS will hopefully come with release 2 for DeepScreen it could be an amazing feature for protection if it would scan much more files,
have better performance and not a so big footprint on the harddrive.

Just installed the latest version and no issues to report.

Great job.

I've just looked over the statistics and the firewall stats are not showing anything - even though it says it's running.

A repair and clean install have not fixed it.

Anyone got the same issue?

There is a bug in avast setup which unfortunately won't install NG on Win10 (at least on Win10 10568, not sure with old 10240 build).

After internal update from Avast Free Antivirus v11.1.2245.1540 to the new version, I get a blue screen at start up. I had to restore a system restore point.

After that I updated avast again, but same problem.

@RejZoR I guess Avast is trying to resolve this issue and they might be busy picking their (http://dl4.glitter-graphics.net/pub/2408/2408904aiimy17ar4.gif) (http://www.glitter-graphics.com) at the same time solving  NG for W10 as quickly as possible, and go and watch a movie (http://dl9.glitter-graphics.net/pub/2385/2385059al2jb03grz.gif) (http://www.glitter-graphics.com)

I seems like they don't realize Windows 10 is the current actual operating system. One would expect a proper support. Who cares about Windows 7 or 8.x at this point. Windows 10 is the future whether people like it or not. It should be a priority because of that.

So, is NG working or not? I could select it during installation and I do see avastVirtualBox Interface among processes. Are you saying I see this, but NG is not really working in my case? I'm using Windows 10 64bit TH2 (fully updated, obviously).

AVAST Team

Is this update going to give me the same features and a usable UI?
After the dirty trick pulled on avast mobile users, I am reluctant to apply this update.
Have been a paying user of avast pro for probably more than 10 years, always recommended avast to others, made all my relatives who relied on me for PC support purchase pro as well, so I was confident they were staying clean.
The mobile avast experience has left me feeling let down badly, is the PC app going the same way?  Am I going to end up with just another advertising display app regardless of my paid subscription?

This also happens after fresh install. Running only the basic addons file, web, mail shields, and browser protection, network protection.

I have installed Avast Free 11.1.2253 over Avast Free 11.1.2245 on two Windows 7 systems and one Windows 8.1 system, all 64-bit.  I used the downloaded installer and have experienced no problems at update installation or since.

None of my systems incorporate VMWare virtualisation.  They are all bog standard Windows installations so am I likely to see Deep Screening problems?

Did the upgrade today and now nothing can see my computer on the network.  Help?   Running W7.  I can see another W7 computer that hasn't been upgraded but that computer can't see me.  Also have a Windows XP computer on the network; Win XP can see the non-upgraded W7 computer but not me.

Update...never mind.  Checked the event log; saw that some Avast services had problems starting on reboot after install; rebooted again (?), all is well.

With the last Beta, and so also with this release, the Avast "Always run in sandbox" icon has been fixed.
It was a minor bug, but nevertheless :)

I'm having the same problem. When I restart, Windows 10 shows that spinning circle and eventually the animation just stops and freezes. The only way to get back into Windows is to power down because otherwise it'll just stay stuck at that frozen circle. Another problem I had with this version is that I couldn't put my computer to sleep properly. It would turn off my screen, but the fans and everything else were still running and there would be no way to turn my screen back on. Once again I had to power down. Uninstalled 2016.11.1.2253 and all is good again.

It should be enabled.

Confirm that it is set to animate - avastUI > Settings > General > Show Avast tray icon - 'Animate the icon when scanning.'

I miss the update notification sounds - they could make an option for it and leave it disabled by default...

I've had sounds and spinning icon disabled since forever. Same can also be found in my custom config. The reason for this is that while it may be unique, it's also INCREDIBLY distracting. You can't really do anything productive on such system because the damn thing is constantly spinning down there.

Thank you for that.   Noted when doing an upgrade, with no settings changes, animation remains enabled.  I'd wager a clean install will result in default systray icon not animating, so that would explain why some see this and some don't.

Avast SafeZone Browser now works as it should, automatically entering PayMode on specified websites.  Apparently the new security fix for Avastium is the good fix for this issue, why it was not found earlier is beyond me?  I even had a dialog box pop up stating that the PayMode feature would be disabled for a site reached a while back, due to an unspecified conflict.  And it was, for awhile, until I repaired the installation.  Reason for this webboard is to let avast devs know about relevant issues directly from consumers, but seems not enough are active to catch these things as they arise.

Still have issues running Home Network Security and Statistics windows unless user logoff is used.

As virtualization is not supported by the system cpu, not an issue for me.  DeepScreen works as it should, taking several seconds to run to completion.

I have updated my av program and notice the boot up time has increased which is slower than previous version. 11.2253 something,  Please somehow increase the boot up time and I have tried unchecking the "Load after services" which made no difference.

In addition I am getting this "warning" from event viewer.

1 user registry handles leaked from \Registry\User\: Process 1616 (\Device\HarddiskVolume3\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastSvc.exe) has opened key \REGISTRY\USER\

is this normal or what should I do as it also appeared in the previous version which I thought it would fix this problem.

Hello

After the update, avast went to trial mode, i´ve asked for the free license code, they sent me one, but im not able to put it on the box, i think the license they sent me is for avast 2015, the code is to big for the space.
And when i go to my account it says that there´s no license available for the device im using. Do i have to wait to trial mode to expire before i can register?
Before the update my license was good.

Before the update my license was good.

I don't know how you got into trial mode - possibly clicking the wrong button on the program update - there is a screen that opens and you have two Update buttons. The one on the left just updates the free version, the one on the Right takes you to a trial version of Avast Internet Security, see attached image, click to expand.

If that is what has happened then it should be showing you have Avast Internet Security trial installed on the title of the Avast UI.

What to do there should be somewhere in the settings to Revert to the free version. If you can't find it, use the Control Panel > Programs & Features > Avast Antivirus > Uninstall - this should offer going back to the free version.

Unfortunately the Go Back function isn't there any more. What does work is to download the free version,
Disconnect from the internet, uninstall the paid version through Control Panel > Program and Features.
Reboot, Install the free version already downloaded and register it. Once done, it's safe to go back on-line.

Thanks Bob, it is a shame that the revert to avast free in the trial version is no longer an option, that really was handy and much less hassle for the user.

Totally agree and I also wasn't happy when they took away an easy way for customers to stay with Avast even though they no longer wanted to use a paid version.  :(

First time I not needed to repair my avast IS installation after the update on Windows 10 to fix the firewall. All went smoothly from the first time, good job  ;)

Its not the version of avast.  its the dat file detects lollauncher.exe as win32:malware-gen    its a false positive.  I sent file to them asking them to get back to me, which WE all know they wont.

To fix this issue go into your virus chest right click that file and chose to restore and add to exclusion list.   its all fix for you.

I'm on version   10.4.2233 so it has nothing to do with the latest version and is a false positive.

I am happy to announce new version AVAST 2016 (build number 2016.11.1.2253).

Hi,

I've just updated to this new build. It used to be the case that you could temporarily disable the shields, which was very useful on occasion. However, this no longer appears to work in this build (or previous build) ... or the icon in the Notification Area isn't showing any Status change. I've gone through each section in the GUI and can't find mention of Shields nor does a search of the forum find any hits for Disable Shields. Is this a bug or deliberate change?

Please advise. Thanks.

1. If by Status change - do you mean A) avast tray icon doesn't rotate and or B) no Red X or Exclamation mark ! over the avast icon when a shields or shield are/is disabled ?
AvastUI > Settings (cog wheel) > General

2. Both of these functions are working for me, see image1 (animate tray icon) and image2 (tray icon with [top]all shields disabled and [bottom] a single shield disabled, click to expand images.

How to get to shields - AvastUI > Settings (cog wheel) > Active Protection.

I don't understand why you've posted a screenshot of the Avast icon in the Notification Area. I know how to (try to) temporarily disable the Shields from the Avast icon in the Notification Area. My previous post was because this just isn't working on either my PC or laptop. My apologies if I didn't make myself clear.

If I select any of the Disable options from the right-click context menu of the Avast icon in the Notification Area (what your screenshot decribes as the 'Avast tray icon') then I see the Component stop dialog and click on the Yes button to confirm my choice and dismiss the dialog.

In previous versions the Avast icon in the Notification Area would change at this point to an icon with a small red X, signifying that the Shields were disabled.

This is no longer happening on either my desktop (Win 7 SP1) or laptop (Win 10 v1511). None of the right-click context menu options (of the Avast icon in the Notification Area) to temporarily disable the shields are working any more.

What you call the Notification Area is actually the following:
The system tray (or "systray") is a section of the taskbars in the Microsoft Windows desktop user interface that is used to display the clock and the icons of certain programs so that a user is continually reminded that they are there and can easily click one of them.
Once disabling any of the shields, the the small red x still appears just as it always has.
May I suggest that you try a repair of Avast. If that doesn't fix your problem, do a clean install.
Here are the directions:

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

1. Simply to show it is working on my system.

2. A key point that I made relates to the tray icon animation (image1 in previous post), which recently has this disabled by default. I don't know if its being disabled has an unforeseen impact in the different icon status red X and ! over the avast tray icon.

Just tested than and it works fine on my main XP Pro system.
I also tested this on my win7 system without issue. So a Repair as suggested by bob3160 might be the next step.

Thank you. Unfortunately neither a 'repair' or 'clean install' worked and I still cannot temporarily disable Avast's Shields from the Avast icon in the Notification Area. Please advise.

PS - Microsoft renamed the 'system tray' to Notification Area in Windows 7 (just check Taskbar and Start Menu Properties) and I know what it's supposed to do. The issue remains that the small red X does not appear when I try to disable Avast's shields temporarily. I'm happy for you that it works for you... but it no longer works for me on either my desktop or laptop... and that's the problem.

Thank you. I'm very fortunate to have the ability to create VM's. So I created a new Windows 7 x32 VM with 4 GB ram and dual core CPU and installed Avast Free. No other software installed and the only Internet connection was to download the Avast installer. Tried to right-click and disable shields but to no effect. The Action Center icon in the Notification Area showed an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle so I opened it... to find 2 entries to "Turn on avast! Antivirus" and that Windows Defender had not been turned off.

Next, I loaded a bare (but activated) Windows 10 Pro x32 VM (again, 4 GB ram and dual core CPU) and, using a local account, installed Avast Free. Once again, no other software was installed and the only Internet connection was to download the Avast installer (using Edge) and install it. Tried to right-click and disable shields but to no effect.

I accept that my entire home network may possibly be compromised despite my best efforts (Avast, Malwarebytes) and 35+ years experience of building and fixing PCs, clearing malware, etc. (including many years as a Senior IT Officer then IT Manager for a local authority) .... but I think there's currently a problem with Avast.

Edit: More info. Amongst my downloads I found the installer for Avast Free v11.1.2245.1540. I reverted my W10 VM to its original snapshot (i.e. installed, activated and nothing else) and installed Avast Free. It informed me it was out-of-date but I didn't update. I still could not disable Avast's Shields using the right-click context menu of its icon in the Notification Area.

To double-check, I reverted the W10 VM to its original snapshot (i.e. installed from new, activated and nothing else) and re-installed Avast Free v11.1.2245.1540 a second time... and didn't update. I just waited until the 'You are protected/ Up-to-date' dialog appeared then closed the dialog.

Same thing... I still could not disable Avast's Shields using the right-click context menu of its icon in the Notification Area.

Sorry but, I stand by my original query... Is this a bug or a deliberate change?

I am using Internet Download Manager (IDM) with Avast Free Antivirus (only file shield+web shield).
While downloadig a file, IDM divide the files some parts then manage them 1 again.
I downloaded a malware sample today with IDM.. Avast blocked same URL for 33 times only for 1 sample.
I hope everything was OK with Avast, I suspect from a bug in Avast?

What do you think? My system is clean thanks Avast.

This really needs to be in its own new topic in the Viruses & Worms forum.

This hasn't really got anything to do with a program version but the virus definitions, which are the same across many different program versions.

2. Or you can download and install from here:

I have Windows 10 installed on my desktop PC.
I have also downloaded the latest version of Avast Antivirus Version: 11.1.2253.
However, I noticed that my manually created Restore Points as well as those automatically created by Microsoft during updates kept being deleted every time I start my PC the next day after switching it off.
Please let me know what could be the problem.
Thank you.

Are you sure that you have the service turned on??? As you can see, I'm not seeing any problems on Windows 10.

1. Why avast Internet Security 2016 didn't allowed KProcessHacker driver to run?
KProcessHacker part of ProcessHacker driver, made by wj (wj32.org) and its opensource.

2. I don't know i should put this in bug report or not.
Sometime avast Internet Security 2016.11.1.2253 hang WinRAR process. It happen when i try to compress many file with many WinRAR instance.
My WinRAR version is 5.31 x64.

My OS is win 7 x64 with current update (Feb 2016), except GW10 KB update, of course. And I disable all telemetry except some wicked telemetry service (dps and others).
Oh... another thing, i disabled hardened mode, deep screen, program behaviour notify, etc, in another word i only enable some "normal" setting according to me.

That programme can be used for good or bad...  And recently that was used to install a rootkit...  Hence Avast does not like it

hey guys
since I updated to the new version about 2 weeks ago I've been having major problems with connecting to the internet. It takes windows a good 20 minutes to connect.
if this continues I'm going to have to delete AV and use something else so any solutions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thx. :)

Try a repair. No problems here connecting.

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

I've had to do a clean windows install on a work PC running Windows Vista Business, reinstalled Avast 2016.11.1.2253 and Web shields refuses point blank to start.

I've reinstalled Avast and it won't start, I've also restarted the windows process several times and still get nothing. All other parts of the program work fine.

Any help will be appreciated.

hi there bob3160
sorry for late reply, had a few problems over here!
i've had to uninstall avast, for some odd reason since the last update it was conflicting with my wireless connection and most days would take a good 30 mins to connect - frustrating!
i've used avast for years and had no problem so i'm clueless as to why this has happened now
i'm still using windows xp - dunno if that's worth mentioning, probably not - as i say i've never had problems before... :/
anyway my problem now is i've uninstalled avast but my security center is telling me its still there?
any help would be greatly appreciated!
many thanks :)

Hi bob3160
Sorry to be a nuisance but still having problems.
Ran the uninstall utility in safe mode as advised and it confirmed that avast was uninstalled however pc security centre is telling me that avast reports it is up to date and virus scanning is on  (!!!) I have ran the utility at least 4 times and I still get the same message. I'm so confused and have no idea what to do next.  :(
Thank you in advance

I have 3 pc's with Avast and this new update may have cause some problems, I hope it is not permanent.   Avast wants to reboot during the day sometimes 2 times.   I scanned and it said I had a virus, no log to tell me what the virus was and I don't like to delete anything without knowing what it is.  My second PC also had one virus, no log.  It also want to reboot.  My third destop is put away.   Avast has been a good AV until now.  If this continues I will look for a new AV.

I am sorry did not mean to be sharp, but I am very frustrated.   The no solution I mention for from another thread about reboots all the time.   I did what the utube said twice, but didn't work for me will keep trying.   What's wrong with putting in the name of the virus  when the virus is found instead of saying "1 virus".   Other scanners do that.

Your new version did not fix the problems of settings not being saved.
I can clear history okay but when i reopen safe zone all history and settings that I deleted/changed are back to where they were.
You need to fix this now. Add a save button or something that will permanently delete history, and save settings changes.
Or refund all our money. We are not getting what we paid for or was promised. I see a class action law suit in our future.
One very unhappy customer

3/29/16 @ 5:45 Update to all, What ever Avast did on the latest small update after the major update fixed all my problems.
Thank you so much. I am for now a very happy customer and will advise friends and family that this is worth having.
Thanks again.
