Can you please check (usually) C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log\EventLog.log for Rescue Disc problems, from the bottom. Or post the file here. Thanks.

Ok, thanks, I missed that. There was a bug in self-defense preventing installing of Rescue Disc toolkit. It's already fixed, I just don't know what release you have. Can you please turn off self-defense for another try? If it's successful you can keep turned it on again, it's just needed for the first run.

Thanks for the tip. I was finally able to create mine :)

I'm having the same problem, so after reading this thread I updated to latest version: 12.3.2280 (build 12.3.3154.6),  AND I disabled the self-defense module,  but STILL when I try to create a rescue disc I get the "Failed to create the Rescue Disk"  pop up window.  I thought that bug was fixed?

Attached is the log file
Windows 10 64bit

Any suggestions?

The bug is fixed.
If you look at your log file and the one from the OP you can see that your error is different.

The OP :
Quote
WinPE installer main installation failed (WinPE 4.0), EC 00000653
You :
Quote
WinPE2 creator create target medium failed, EC 0000001f

On what are you trying to create the rescue disk ? (usb, cd, dvd...)

Error 0x1F is probably for USB, rescue disc is unable to format target drive. Can you try another USB disk?

Or as a workaround you can try to create CD/DVD rescue disc (ISO file) and format the USB disk yourself with NTFS filesystem. Then extract (with 7zip for example) content of ISO file on the USB disk.

I'm creating rescue disk to a USB 8GB flash stick.  I also tried a different USB, but same result.  Both of these I had previously formatted FAT32  and there were no problems formatting.   I will try to go the CD route as suggested and let you know ...

wait a sec... should I format the USB with NTFS?

Yes, rescue disc uses NTFS. You can try FAT32, it just wasn't reliable always to boot from this filesystem.

After formatting with NTFS,  it worked.   I thought flash drives should be FAT32,  or is this because its a boot setup?  Maybe the software should mention this before creating the rescue disk.

Thanks for your help and quick response!

If you have the .iso there is no need to format.
Simply use it to create the rescue disk.

Right click the file and choose "burn disc image".
If your windows version doesn't have that option, use some like imgburn to create the rescue disk.

I'm having the same issue. Have tried both CD and USB. Both fail.

Have tried disabling the software, and still no luck.

Program Version: 12.3.2280 (Build 12.3.3154.22)
Virus Def version: 161115-0
