Update not Successful
« on: June 21, 2013, 02:46:47 PM »
For the last couple of days I keep getting a pop up message to the effect that my last "Update was not successful."

It seems that no matter how many times this this update began that I attempt to do an "update" that I keep getting the same message.

What can I do to resolve this irritating issue?

Thank you

Repair avast!:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> avast!
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

When I go to "Add and Remove Programs," "Avast," and click on "Repair" I get a message that says:

"Error processing packages. Please use full update."

Beneath that it allows me to either "View Log" or click on "OK"

If I click on "View Log" I get this listing of events:

1. Uninstall using recommended setting.

What should I do?

Thank you

1. Download avast! Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions..!!)
3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

Being that you mentioned you may of had AVG in the past it would probably be wise to run there removal tool just to make sure all the remnants are gone http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

If your computer came with Norton/ Symantec remove them with tool first, also if any other AV ever installed post back, like AVG etc
remints of old AV (including old avast) can cause the problem you had
