Vista won't start in safe mode, but hangs on aswrvrt.sys
« Reply #34 on: August 09, 2013, 10:48:47 PM »
I have the same problem with my Vista OS.
Repair OS doesn't work
I run AVG Rescue CD : nothing found

I've attached the log generated by FRST (Farbar Recovery Scan Tool)

Any idea ?

You have has a lot of blue screens just lately looking at that data.  What I will do first is remove McAfee

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same USB as FRST
Run FRST as before and press fix
On completion try a normal boot

Thanks very much for your help.
No pb with the fix
Fix result of Farbar Recovery Tool (FRST written by Farbar) (x86) Version: 08-08-2013 02
Ran by SYSTEM at 2013-08-09 22:01:55 Run:1
Running from F:\
Boot Mode: Recovery

==============================================

mferkdk => Service deleted successfully.
mfesmfk => Service deleted successfully.

==== End of Fixlog ====

I restart in normal mode = no change (user's icon are displayed but after ~20 seconds, blue screen)
I relaunch in safe mode : display aswRvrt.sys and blocked

Other suggestion ?

Florent

OK as soon as you get to normal windows run MSConfig
You will need to be fast

Next we will check for driver conflicts

Step 1: Start MSConfig

Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or provide confirmation.

Step 2: Configure Selective Startup options

1.In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Selective Startup on the General tab.

2.Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
Note The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.

3.Click the Services tab.

4.Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
5.Click Disable All, and then click OK.
6. When you are prompted, click Restart.

Once back in windows does the problem still occur ?

Thanks for this response but I haven't enough time, I only can select user before blue screen.
So I can"t follow your instructions  :-(

What appears to be happening here is a driver is crashing the system in normal mode and failing to load in safe mode.  Prior to the boot failure did you install any new programmes or get some updates ?

No new installation, only updates of programs.
I can't be sure about the list of updates, but I think : avast, Windows firewall

At one moment normal mode didn't work and safe mode worked well. I've decided to delete unused application (dropbox...)
And after, event the safe mode didn't work

Is it possible to have logs about last install/unisntall in my system ?

Lets see if we can examine the lates minidump.  They appear to have become more frequent prior to the not booting

From the recovery disc command prompt would you be able to copy this file C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini080913-06.dmp to the USB and then upload it to a file sharing site so that I can collect it and see what is crashing

I put all minidumps in this zip : http://wikisend.com/download/547326/Minidump.zip

I hope it will help...

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same USB as FRST
Run FRST as before and press Fix
On completion reboot to normal windows

Avast will be inoperative on reboot
