Recently updated to Avast 2014.  Running Windows 7 Pro, SP1.  After updating lost ability to load web pages.  Using Firefox v.24, Chrome v.30+, IE ver 10.  Could ping all web sites, couldn't load home pages.  Disabled Avast security controls, could immediately access all web sites.  I don't want to keep the shields turned off.  Is there a fix for this problem.

Jim Isom, this sounds like a firewall issue.  In your firewall settings, delete any rules that pertain to Avast.  When you next run a browser, your firewall should ask for permission to allow Avast again.  You should do so.  What firewall are you using?

Suggest you do a system restore to a couple of days ago which worked for me in XP Pro SP3 and stick with the last version of Avast. This update is an unbridled disaster for me after being able to upgrade from 5 to 6, 6 to 7 and 7 to 8 with no issues. Good luck! My shutdown times are still a bit slow but otherwise fully functional.

Unless Avast does a radical revamp of 9 for XP and Win7 users, my next machine this year will be running something different. Really a pity considering how well Avast worked prior to this screw-up. This "update" OUGHT to have come with a warning label for loyal prior users!

I guess the AVast firewall.  Tried to check Windows firewall and got the message that Windows firewall was not using recommend settings.  Tried to set 'recommended settings' and got the error message 80072404

Incorrect? One shouldn't IMHO need to be a geek to use a program update from the GUI without issue. If you're fine doing R&D for the vendor, that's fine. It certainly isn't fine in my book. NO thanks!

Which Avast are you running; Free, Pro, Internet Security or Premier?

hi guys.

got normal update popup and sound this am.   i have not reinstalled. all seems entirely normal with avast now, as popup problem is only problem i have found so far.

Not on my computer it isn`t.

I received the VPS update this morning - 131026-1, but no voice and the pop-up about facebook security appeared.

When are Avast going to fix this for all so we all get the update voice and correct pop-up?

It seems to me that avast are in a no win situation here as most people were complaining about the very pop ups that were appearing.

How do we know this is not actually intended and the pop ups have been intentionally removed.?

Is there written evidence to prove either way.?

It`s possible, but it would be nice if someone from Avast would confirm either way.

There is silence from Avast on that atm. 

I get the pop-ups but no sound although I am not bothered about some girl telling me what I can read.  I also have an occasional problem with the Avast! icon in the system tray being unresponsive to both mouse over and left click,  opening from the start menu still works.  A computer reboot solves the situation and I have only had it about 4 times since updating to 2014 (back in RC2).

I think something is going on at the cloud end of avast.New technologies are perhaps being implemented.

Just trialling the internet security version, running very well here
