The only way that I can see to get a safe copy is by using slim drivers

This is the direct download link http://www.driverupdate.net/downloads/SlimDrivers-setup.exe
Do a custom install and decline the AVG tool bar offer

Run the programme and see if it can locate an update for that driver

Hey Essex

I ran the program but it doesn't seem to be able to find the driver that you mentioned.

Has that driver caused any further crashes ? Or is the computer behaving now ?

The PC is fine now. It just won't recognize the hard drive, no idea why.

Have you tried the drive in a USB caddy or tested the drive for errors

Hi Essex

Sorry for not replying for a while -- work and stuff.

I don't really know how to do that. Honestly right now I would be fine with just formatting the hard drive and starting over. Could you help me do this since I'm not sure how to do this when windows doesn't really recognize the hard drive.

To refresh your memory, if you need it:

- When I plug in the hard drive and start windows, I get stuck on starting windows screen
- When hard drive is plugged in it is not detected by bios
- When I plug in the hard drive while the computer is on and I go into device manager, it lists it as "disk drive" but doesn't give a name, size of the sdd etc.

Thanks for all your help thus far.

Just found this for SSD drives http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8167/~/ssd-drive-is-not-detected-by-the-system

Quote
SOLUTION A - Drive Used to work - Secondary or Storage
 1. Check the drive letter and the partition
 2. If it is possible, try to recover your data
 3. If the drive is NOT detected by the operating system, verify that the drive is detected by the BIOS
 4. If the drive is NOT detected by the BIOS verify that the power and data cables are properly connected
 5. If the drive is still NOT detected, try to detect it in another computer (internal) or connect it in an external enclosure
 6. Connect another drive to the same port
 7. Check the return policy and replace the drive
