Stuck at aswRvrt.sys when trying to boot in safe mode.
« on: February 10, 2014, 12:34:39 AM »
Hello all.

I seem to be having a problem that has happened to this user (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=133442.0) and some others. My computer got BSOD a few days ago and upon doing a hard reset, it was stuck on the starting windows screen. I try to get into safe mode but it gets stuck on the loading windows file part when it is loading aswRvrt.sys. When choosing repair my computer from the advanced boot menu, it takes about 90 mins to get to the boot menu options screen. I tried a system restore but am still getting the same hangup at aswRvrt.sys.

I ran the farbar tool and am attaching the text file. From what I can see, it didn't pick up anything. So I think that what worked for user mcbain will work for me, but I just want to be sure (plus I can't find the attached fixlist text file).

I would really appreciate any help you can give me!

Thanks in advance.

Hi initially I will try a restore point

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press FIX
On completion try a normal boot

Hello Essex

Applied the fixlist and same deal -- stuck at the starting windows screen. I will attach the fixlog text file.

Thanks again for your help!

OK once last shot before I remove Avast, although I feel that will just move the problem

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press FIX
Then try a normal boot

Hi Essex

I tried the new fix and still stuck at windows start screen. I'm attaching the fixlog.txt.

Thanks again for your continued help.

This one will disable Avast totally,  If it still fails then we will run a chkdsk, details at the end

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press FIX
On completion reboot.

IF IT FAILS

Then go to the command prompt and enter the following command :

chkdsk c: /r

Hi Essex

Unfortunately it didn't work, as you suspected.

It will take my computer 2 hours to get back to the advanced boot menu. Once it gets there I will run the chkdsk command you suggested. Here is the fix log and a startup repair log that I ran yesterday.

Thanks again for your help.

EDIT -- I ran it in safe mode and instead of getting stuck on aswRvt it is getting stuck on classpnp.sys.

Hmm although not a brilliant report (cheers MS) it does give a pointer towards a file integrity error

If chkdsk fails to resolve it you may need to run an offline sfc scan
