« on: September 03, 2014, 05:21:59 PM »
my avast has broke again, before it would turn itself off and refuse to go back on, forum says reinstall. so i do and it works for a few days, same problem, reinstall works for a week, now i get some side by side crap. forums say reinstall.

getting a bit sick of reinstalling. very tempted to ditch this and go with something i can spend less time fixing.

someone tell me whats going on

Hello and welcome to the Forum! :)

- Which OS? (32/64 Bit - which SP)
- Which avast-version? (Free, Pro, Internet Security, Premier)
- Which program version (2014.9.0.2021 is the latest)?
- Other security related software installed?
- Which AV-Program was installed before and how was it removed?

DJBone
Win10 x64, APS (always latest version)
Avast Mobile Security (always latest version)

now i get some side by side crap.
this may be related to conflict with other security programs installed ..... or old program not fully removed

I can see no apparent reason for this

Could you run a chkdsk /r on the windows drive

I have come across this one or two times before and what appeared to work is to run the new Beta.  It is very stable I have had it on my system since release

When you re-installed Avast did you use Avast clean as well ?

Do not use avast. I installed it 4 days ago. Within 24 hours of installing avast my computer had problems. I then had to pay the 179.00 for technical support. The same issue keeps happening where my internet crashes and will not open again. I deleted avast. Restarted my computer and bam the internet worked. The tech. said avast fights with windows thinking each other is a harmful threat. It's avast problem. They get you to sign up for their service knowing you will need the technical help. That is where they make their money. After two conversations with customer service telling me they will not refund my $179.99. I filled a fraud alert with my bank and am getting my money back. NEVER USE THEM. ITS A PLOY TO GET YOU TO HAVE TO USE THEIR TECH. SERVICE ABD CHARGE YOU MORE $$$!

No .... you dont HAVE to do it ....... and forum help here is free
avast phone support is not done by avast but a third party company ..... posted a million times here. Something you would have found out using a forum search

been an avast user for years and have never HAD to use the phone service, i can usually figure this kinda thing out by myself, on this occasion i hit a wall and the guys on this forum have been more than helpful, if you felt you HAD to use the phone and pay all that money maybe you should go back to chalk and a slate..
