Microsoft Confirms Windows 10 New Monthly Charge
As nothing is absolutely confirmed, this is FYI:  http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2016/07/14/microsoft-confirms-windows-10-new-monthly-charge/?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=yahootix&partner=yahootix&yptr=yahoo#15ab9e2fdfab
Proposed for Enterprise Users atm.
Interesting - Whilst it says this is for the Win10 Enterprise version, I don't believe they will like this model.

Who knows if in the future it filters down to Consumer users. If you don't want to pay that how the hell would you get rid of win10 as essentially you have no fall back to an OS that you actually paid for (without a whole lot of hassle.
I'm not convinced that the consumer versions will ever have a charge, but, if it happens, it shouldn't be any more than $20-25 a year. I would pay that. It should also be account wide. All Windows devices using the same MS account should be included in the charge.

I believe this is what you were trying to say:  I'm not convinced that the consumer versions will ever have a charge, but, if it happens, it shouldn't be any more than $20-25 a year. Thank you, I didn't notice his quote went on past what I had posted. It's fixed now.

French authorities order Windows 10 to stop it's aggressive excessive data slurping!
They were given three months to comply with the French Data Protection Act, read:

Hi Damian!

That comes too late! On 2016.07.29 every aggressive acts are over. It's a Friday, so they save time to change everything to pay more money.

More typical European nonsense. The first charge is completely bogus and the advertising ID stuff can be easily turned off. What are they going to do if MS doesn't change things to their satisfaction? Ban Windows 10 and incur the wrath of the reported 10 million French users?

Hi Dch48,

I think it is a bit double standards. When Microsoft wants to explore more of Google's pay-model and we cannot deny they are trying to do that here,
the two are not treated equally. I think one of the thoughts behind the Win10 push was their wish to become a one-world OS standard.
Those that wanna go back to 8.1 can do that within a month time and are good on 8.1 well into the new decennium. Their computers won't probably not outlive that OS. And any new one comes with Win10 included anyway.

Microsoft patches Windows 10 Anniversary Update Preview Build 14393

http://betanews.com/2016/07/23/microsoft-patches-windows-10-anniversary-update-preview-build-14393/

It’s generally considered that the newly released Windows 10 Build 14393 is the Anniversary Update as Microsoft not only hasn’t rolled out any new builds since that one arrived on Monday (and they were coming thick and fast previously), but it’s just released a patch for that build.

The cumulative update for PC and Mobile mops up some more problems, and bumps the OS preview up to 14393.3.

The patch is all about tackling problems, and the list of fixes, released on the Insider Preview Feedback Hub, include:

We have fixed an issue where keyboard input on some Windows tablet devices would not rotate to landscape normally.
We have fixed an issue that results in Windows Updates being delayed on systems with Connected Standby.
We have fixed a problem with text input with Korean Input Method Editor (IME) in some Store apps.
We fixed an issue causing Store apps to stop launching due to a licensing issue.
We have fixed an issue with apps that synchronize using DDE for inter-process communication.
